I'm primarily a backpack mule deer hunter and I am in search of a highly capable, lightweight backpacking tent for 3-season use. I like the idea of a true 2 man style tent, that way if I'm running SOLO, I can still fit all my gear inside the tent or vestibules, and if I'm hunting with a buddy, we can both sleep comfortably without feeling like we are in a scene from Brokeback Mountain. I know a lot of tent makers advertise 2P and a lot of times they are 1 Man tents with hardly any room to spare. Around 2-2.5lbs is okay. Obviously I want as lightweight as possible without compromising performance. Has to be highly waterproof.

HELP ME OUT. I own several lightweight shelters, and I still have yet to find the perfect fit.

There is no secret ingredient! Or “best” tent… there’s a ton of great options. Whatever you prioritize on the mountain will dictate what you like.

Personally I prefer floorless, with short setup times. Went from a Kifaru supertarp to the SO Silex and I’m quite happy with it. The extra stake time in the supertarp was frustrating to me but it was a great shelter. You say you’ve done a good bit of backpack hunting so tell us what you don’t like about the current options.

What tents do you have already and what don’t you like about them? That will help us figure out what might work better for you

Durstan X Dome 2 solid with aluminum poles. It’s not gonna meet your weight requirement but most truly rated 3 season tents won’t.
