I have hunted in Tibets and now have Lowa Rangers. Love them both, but what is a good step down in stiffness from the ranger and lighter with quality ankle support like the tibet, ranger. Under armours are too soft, tried them too.

They are very light, but with great support and very good grip, definitely recommend them.

I've got Lowa Tibets and Trekkers and like them.
Like you, I wanted to try a lighter boot and bought some Salomon Quest 4D.
They are much lighter, less stiffness in the sole, good support, nice grip qualities on varying terrain. One of the most comfortable boots out of the box I've ever tried.
Downside: count on them leaking. Probably sooner rather than later. I still like the boot and wear it a lot........ during dry times.

i got some Lowa boots. from REI. reading about the Lowa Renegades (after the purchase)..i think i wont get any durability awards..but they were the most comfy from the get go. i went to REI after hiking the hills in my "big boots"..the renegades felt ethereal by comparision..it was like hitting the grocery store while hungry..NOT SMART.
i also went to my doc and he gave me a free ankle brace that he said should fit underneath..i'm trying it all out tomorrow on a hog hunt.

My experience with Salomon 4D's is that they are showing significant wear after 7-8 months of fairly regular use including two extended elk hunts and training beforehand. Sole is ok but the upper rand area is kind of beat up.

Waterproofness lasted about a month. Elk bow season with some extended showers resulted in leaking. Light snow in rifle season.....wet feet. I always wear gaiters and the leaking was around the toe box.

Very comfortable boot for dry weather.
