Any opinions on bivy vs tent? Is having a floor really that important?

Along with most other hunting clothing.

While most hunting clothing is not made in the USA, there are brands of hunting clothing not made in China. I am not apposed to buying products made outside the USA, as long as the nation is a U.S. ally. Another poster asked "where my hunting clothing is made." In addition to the hunting clothing made by U.S. allies, some of my hunting clothing is older stuff that was made in the USA, i.e. issued military camo. I have Under Armor cold gear that was made in the USA. I really go out of my way to research where items are made and try as best as I can to buy from companies that manufacture in the USA. The KUIU reps argue that their are no US manufactures that will make their products using the materials they chose, and it is for this reason only that they have many of their products manufactured in China. My opinion is that this is BS! The only reason companies have their products made in China is because it can be made cheap, and the products can be made with no regard for the environment. I have nothing against the good people of china, but their government is very evil.

And its not that the Chinese can not make quality products, they most certainly can. Its the simple fact that China is not America's friend. We may one day find our selves at war with them, and I for one do not want to contribute to their financial success knowing they may very well use it against us one day.

We are in a trade war with China, and since 2001 China has been lying, cheating and stealing to wipe out American manufacturers. This is the first step in a long range plan to wipe us out as a sovereign nation. China manipulates their currency, and they sell their products at 1/10th of the cost. If we the American consumers do not do "something" we will not have a country to hunt in, live in, or raise our kids in as we do now.

A good eye opening documentary is "Death by China." Years ago I was like may folks, and did not care where the things I purchased were made, as long as the price was right. That all changed when I became aware of what was happening. They say "knowledge is power" but I say knowledge without action is just knowledge. Please consider what I have to say, and remember, we do not have to lie down and watch our country deteriorate, we can do something. It may not change anything, and it may never be enough to stop what is happening, but at least those of us that do something will never be numbered with them that did nothing.

Any opinions on bivy vs tent? Is having a floor really that important?

In the past 40 years I have used mostly tents when a tent was needed, i.e.: heavy snow, heavy rain. The past few years I've been using just a bivy, or a tarp strung up between two trees (no heavy snow fall). If the ground is going to absorb the water when it falls, you do not need a floor. I now prefer a tarp in the rain as it gives me more freedom to move around. A floor eventually gets full of mud, but a dirt floor remains what it is. Heavy snow fall I will use a good four season tent, but maybe a tarp will work just as well for short trips. Ive been laid up in ares where the snow is deep, and coming down fast, and pitching a tent was the best option.
