I think maybe he meant you don't "test" them. Maybe next time you are at the range, drop it on a pad from 18" a few times. I don't think it will take much time.

To the OP a very nice scope with adjustable turrets and an excellent reticle that holds zero in drop tests is the Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42. Comes in Mil or MOA, has illumination, parallax adjustment and comes in for under $900. I have yet to find a better value to performance ratio in a proven scope. It also available in a 4-16x50.

I would highly suggest looking through the scope eval threads for any scope that is in your price range and do some reading. You may not have to give up what you think you have to to get reliability.

A 2000 dollar budget opens a lot of doors. I have an NXS, used it for this season, never once did I look through it and think "if only that picture was more clear." I did however have every ounce of confidence that it was still sighted it.

How would you rate the glass in the trijicon? This scope has come up a bunch if times in this thread even through all the bickering. Haha. I don't have a local dealer to look through these. Credo or tenmile. Would they be comparable to mark 5, nx8, razor, ect? Thanks

I don't GAS what you think, or what you use, or why you use it. Recommending this internet drop test as the first thing to consider when buying or using a scope though is laughable, IMO.

I havent read all the scope evals but Trijicon, Nightforce and SWFA seem to be the ones that are recommended the most.


The really nice thing about the eval threads is that they really do just give you information based on the testing. There is no pushing you to buy what they want you to. Read them and make the decision for yourself.

Make sure you take the time to read the why Form does what he does and understand his thought process. It makes it all make more sense.

You’re correct, I didn’t spend any time with you in the field. But anyone with any sense of herd quality knows the western half of Wyoming was absolutely decimated from last winter. Your original comment was generic that Wyoming mule deer numbers are doing well. As a whole, that is far from the truth. I guess I’m more of a big picture kind of guy, rather than base an opinion on an isolated area/person. My comment on herd health is based on factual conversations with a Wyoming biologist and multiple hunters from different areas of the state, as well as personal experience.

My father in law and I and his cousin, the local game warden, were all laughing at the amount of bucks we saw. I don’t know anything other than the area we spent time in. I had heard that overall herd numbers across the state were “low” but didn’t spend any time other than where I was. Low is not the word I’d use to describe the deer and elk populations. The only thing down or low was the antelope numbers compared to normal there.

Where in Wyoming are you talking about? You clearly don’t spend any time in the field where I hunted and scouted in Wyoming last September or you’d be laughing at yourself instead of me.

To derail the already derailed train. Your not wrong about the mule deer numbers in Wyo at all. I live in SW Wyo and me and those around me have never seen this many deer in a season. Either I don't hunt where they all "died" or the population winterkill reports are exaggerated. (not saying a lot of deer didn't die in some places) But, I tend towards the latter as very few biologists are going out and doing actual field work anymore. Ask any Wyo wildlife biologist who worked in the 80-90s if current biologists are actually doing work in the field that they used to do. You'll get laughed at. WGFD has serious issues right now.

To the OP. I just got a NF SHV F1 4-14x50 and shot a cow elk two days ago with it. I think it would serve you well. Also my dad just got his hands on a FFP Tenmile (3-18 I think?) and we are both thoroughly impressed with it. Hard to go wrong with either company.
