A fantastic resource for anything cell cam is herd360, You won't find better customer service and more knowledge in one spot. I really recommend making purchases there

Thanks. That's a good idea on the external battery. You charge it back during the off-season then?

I actually have a spare sitting around, but yeah if it dies I’ll just recharge it and take it back.
Might switch to a solar panel on my one camera that’s on a tank so I can basically run it year round. Some of my cameras are in spots that receive minimal direct sun tho!

This is a medium picture size that was sent to the app.

I have 16 Now, got on the ranch plan they have which is the best deal for pictures and data anywhere. 10$ GB for your whole account all cams are shared, you can adjust your setting for what data you receive vs what’s on your memory card. Only send extra data for the pictures you want.
compared to data from black gate for sample at 50% more, 15$ a mega bite.

Right now my Wise Eye Inventory is at follows.

MC1 x 1 cam
DC1 x 4 cams
MC2 x5 cams
DC2 low glow x 4 cams
DC 2 NO glow x 2 cams

Battery life is very depended on several factors, settings, Location and Battery or power type. Right now i would say across the board the are as good as anything, else out there 8/10 on avg. The two other cams i can think of that have significantly better batt life both miss a lot of pictures with poor detection circuits. If they sent as many picture as wise eyes or reconx they wouldn’t have better battery life. Wise eye has ten best tech support of any company i have used, second by reconx.

For power supplies here is what i am running at various places

Energizer lithium’s
1.5 V rechargeable Lithium, EBT, xTars, and Amp torrents
Battery box’s and batteries from herd 360
Solar panels from herd 360 and also reconx

In addition I have 10 reconx on an account right now,

and one farm with 15 varieties of Tacacams, the Gens3 been junk fyi. I plan on replacing and deleting my tacacam account. Too expensive for the data and very poor detection.

Going forward i plan of doubling my wise eye and reconx holdings

Cams used and discarded, the list gets longer

Black gate
stealth cam/muddy
Ridge tech

As discussion I would also be interested in what you disliked about the Blackgates?

I’ve had pretty good luck with the moultrie reveals. They are available at a reasonable price, have good battery life and you don’t get hundreds of pics of moving branches, grass etc. however, I have not used them during the winter.

Curious on your experiences with Ridgetec? That's been my go to, i think I have 10 of them. Have had 2 go back over the last 4 years for repair/replacement but i really like how cheap it is to run them on video all the time compared to other cams.

Black gate, I had no real problems with the cams at all, except that the interface is a little bit, overly simplistic a lot of scrolling in the set up. That's in the offer 4G light and R4G 4G GEN 2, I have two each currently. The main issue is the data and how you pay for it. You pay a monthly fee for the data at about 15 dollars per megabyte that's at 50% over the cost of wisely and reconnx furthermore, you pay for the data monthly regardless of your allocation use so other words if you only use 75% of your data, you still pay 100% of your monthly allocation. Whereas on a wise plan, you only pay for the data you use at the rate of $10 per megabyte.
Are you sure about your pricing? Black Gate is $15 for 1GB. Wise Eye pricing looks more expensive for 1GB unless you get the yearly option and several additional cams.

With Black Gate all cams share data as well, so you can buy a large data plan for cam 1 with bulk pricing and then just add on cams at $3 each and share the pool.

I am very sure. I am on a ranch plan, which is available for a min for 12, its yearly and 10 per GB, pay only what you use per per month so you use 1.3 GB its 13$ in data.

there was two issues if i remember correctly,
First data was purchased by pre paying, something like 20 or 25 a GB? which is high( about double the cost of some others). i think there as only carry over of data is you went over your monthly reserve and bought more data… so if your under you lost your remaining monthly allocation but over you could carry it over… i think i recall it working like that.
The cams were good, however there was a long period of time were there was no inventory to buy more.

In short my main issue was and is paying for data upfront without carry over.
I prefer to just pay for only the data i use monthly.
So for example on the ranch plan for wise eye
12 cams 12x6 = 72 + 10 per GB

I haven't bought any for at least a couple years but when I bought them they came with certain amount of data for free with initial activation. You pay a base level for a plan and then a fee for each additional camera that is added ($5 or 6 each?). Anyways, I got enough data off the initial activations starting 4 years ago that I have never had paid more than the smallest data plan + the monthly fee for each camera and they have mostly been running on video the whole time! I might actually run out of the "free" data next year and have to start buying a bigger plan.

I know they phased out the old version cams last year and got a new model which I haven't tried. Wonder if they had supplier issues like those that doomed Exodus?

I’m looking to buy 2 cameras here in the next week or two. Used Tactacam on the unlimited pictures plan. Satisfied with it. Id like to add some video if I can. I’m ok with paying a little extra for hd pictures like I do with the tactacam app. I may stick with tactacam unless there is an option that fits my needs better. My must haves are dependability, solar compatibility, unlimited picture plan reasonably priced, picture quality (in that order). Should I stick with what I know or is there something that fits my needs better?

Some random thoughts
~ most people are paying for more data than they need or use.
~ Card/ cam data use vs data sent isn't the same thing. Look for companies that allow you to control both.
~ battery life is generally more setting and location dependent than cam dependent
~After market battery/ solar options can be better power options than many brand retail options.
~ SD cards are the biggest issue in cell cams, Make sure they are U3 class 10 from a major brand
