Best caliber for axis

Wondering what caliber and grain billets would be best for hunting axis deer?

Anything you shoot your whitetails with is fine. I've taken many big bucks with a 270 shooting Hornady 140 gr SST Superformance ammo. They are about the same size as a whitetail, only built rather husky but will easily fall to a well placed shot.

Agree, nothing special. Your whitetail rig will do admirably.

I’ve used 243, 270, 280ai, 300 Win, and 223 on axis deer. I prefer the 270 or 280ai.

Make sure you aim for the front shoulder. I actually lost a few does when I was learning to hunt axis deer on Maui and Lanai. I never lost one since I started aiming for the front shoulder. Axis deer lungs are more forward than pigs, goats, elk and mule deer and if you aim back off the shoulder you will actually gut shoot it if you not right on the crease.

Any rifle with a good bonded bullet will kill axis deer.

As it's already been said, any caliber you'd use for whitetail will work fine.
