I have a pair of vortex viper hd 10x42 curious if there is anything optically better in this price range?

Maven B1.2 is the best sub $1k binoculars. I was going to say the Maven B2 but they are $1150 now without a sale/coupon.

Honorable mention: Swarovski CL Demo.

Sig zulu6. The IS more than makes up for any gap in optical quality unless you're exclusively on a tripod.

I've had various Meostars, Viper HDs, Razor HDs, BX4s, Monarch HGs, Maven B3s, Conquest HDs, SHFs, SLCs, and used various others in 8x and 10x. Sadly, your face and eyes are different than mine.

I'd get Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32s or Nikon Monarch HG 8x42s (in that price range). They beat out the others for me, and are dramatically better than Viper HDs. I currently use Swarovski SLC 8x42s, and they're just slightly better than the two I mentioned (like 3% better ...maybe). I'm still looking for the "perfect" glass, but haven't been able to afford NLs. I've also heard 'Sky Rover Banner Cloud' binos are amazing, but am not a huge fan of buying China.

Razors are a step up in the Vortex line. I've got a brand new set of vortex razor HDs I'd sell you. You won't have to stretch the budget and can save the leftover for other gear or gas!

Perfect example of why people need to try them for themselves and not rely on internet recs solely. Everyone's eye's see differently, and ergonomics are as important as optics.
