Best 180 grain 30-06 ammo

1/4” at 100 is meaningless at 600. Find a load that groups at distance and it’ll take care of the close stuff.
Let me explain something 1/4 moa at 100 yards is 1 moa at 400 1 1/4 at 500. Now that's will vary bc of wind and alot of other factors. But I don't shoot any rifle that is not sub moa at 100 yards. That would be stupid.

1/4 moa at 100 is 1 moa at 400? I agree with that, 4" groups (1 moa) at 400 is about right.

ive shot 180 Hornady whitetail for years. always done the job. this year i shot a buck facing me at about 120 yards. pulled shot slightly and missed the frontal. Hit ribs and bullet ended up in hip socket. the bullet had separated from the jacket. I think it was due to the way the bullet hit multiple ribs head on vs broadside.

Personally ive also shot the 150 grs. and i prefer them but found a good deal on the 180s and bought 10 boxes so thats what ive been shooting

Sounds like a good bullet might have to try some.

If you substituted "inches" for your use of "MOA", your statement would be correct.

Barring other factors, 1/4 MOA = 1/4 MOA, no matter how far. That's the value of using "MOA".

That’s not how moa works.

I've been watching videos on YouTube I think I'm going to stick to the 180 core lokt unless I find something that groups just as good or better. Thank you all for your info.

I've had issues with all of my core-lokts over the years just penciling through animals (165-grain). Have been making the transition to 178 eld-x for elk and 150 SST for deer.

Ive never personally had one pencil thru. I've seen some of the most devastating shots from a 30-30 with 150 core lokts.

A 180gr core lokt out of an 06’ will sure enough wreckkkk any deer or hog out there.
If you want to try a different factory load I’d see how the 180gr nosler ballistic tips do..
If you reload. 175gr TMK’s would be great

Unless you are changing the usage of the rifle, ( longer range, bigger game), I question what you are looking for. If I had a rifle that shot 1/4" groups with cheap, readily available ammo, my search would be over.
This! At 180 gr speeds the core lokt is in its happy place and is a performer.

If you want less recoil, I found that a 30-06 rifle that shot super tight with 180s also did the same with 150 Barnes TSX with less recoil
