Berger Bullets Tumbling

I've had great luck with the 215's hybrid targets. Only two kills so far. Aoudad ram at 700 yards and a hog at 300 yards. Both were devastating pass throughs. I'm going to try the 156 next out of my creedmoor and see how they do.

No issues with 170 grain .277 elite hunters. 20ish kills from 100-800 yards. Mv 3050, some pass throughs, some recoveries under the offside hide.

I don’t know why we as hunters would ever expect consistent performance from a bullet that impacts a hog/deer/elk/caribou/moose/bear/coyote/sheep/goat, uphill/downhill/flat at any angle broadside/quartering away/quartering to/facing towards/facing away while standing still/walking/running and hitting any location from head/neck/high shoulder/shoulder bone/rib bone/heart/lungs/liver/spine while traveling 1500-3800 fps.

Maybe it tumbles one time, next time it doesn’t? Maybe it mushrooms some of time. Maybe it pencils through 1 out 10 times? Maybe if it nicks a rib bone it comes apart way faster than when it doesn’t.

What I do believe is the general theory that you will achieve better results with a bullet designed to come apart and use as much of its energy fragmenting inside the animal. Bullets design to stay together and provide a pretty mushroom are much more likely to pencil through and leave a small non-lethal wound channel. Especially considering all the variables I listed above - you want something g that will come apart at 1800 fps, 2500 fps and 3200 fps. Rather it come apart too fast than not at all. So for me it’s Bergers, ELDM, TMK, ELDX, SMK.
