Just a little additional info, Berger is loading the bullet in their testing at 3.394 COAL, I just loaded it up at 3.385 and still have plenty of shoulder and am not crushing powder at + max per Berger load data. I'm kind of surprised that my avg velocity is within 2ft/s of their max load out of a 26" barrel since mine is a 24" and I find my magneto speed to be accurate.

Here is the ballistics chart for my load.

I'd like a chance to win some bullets as well.

I built a 270 WSM with a 1-9" twist benchmark and it shot the Matrix 165 very well. I was running the Matrix at 2990 fps. I shot my bull last year at 748 yards with it. The only issue I had was the seating depth and mag length. I was a little too long for my mag box even with a Wyatt's extended mag box. My gun is at the smith right now being rebuilt on a long action.

I have wondered how the heavies would do in my 270 Win and actually picked up some Reloder 26 to try the Matrix 165s in the 270 Win. I have a standard 1-10" twist in that but its a little lighter and shorter than the 270 WSM will be. Thanks for testing them out with the slow twist.

Good job Dotman,
I finally had a chance to sit down and read your post and all the feedback. I think you've stirred up quite a bit of interest including mine in the 270 short mag.

Hey all, one more day to enter. I'll close this thread sometime Saturday and will do the drawing early next week.

Thanks all and Dotman, this is what Rokslide's all about.

And the winners are...

I qualified 12 entries and assigned a number to each in the order of posts.

Using random.org, I drew:
attachment.php

and

attachment.php

So,

jeffpg and mcr-85, PM me your shipping addresses and I'll get your 25 count boxes of 170gr EOL .277 bullets on the way.

and of course post up that you know you won or everyone's gonna be bugging me for your unclaimed bullets. If I don't hear from you by Friday, I'll redraw.

Thanks everyone who showed interest in this. I wish I could give everyone a box!

And thanks Berger Bullets.

you winners should post to this thread your results after you test and anyone else shooting these.

Thanks and good job dotman!

I would have thought there were more than 12 entries. Those were good odds. Thanks Dotman and Robby.

I still haven't got my gun back from the gunsmith and I've been laid up with foot surgery all spring anyway. I am hoping I get my gun back soon so I can try them out. I have bought a few boxes of these while I've been waiting for my gun to get back. I looked on MidwayUSA the other day and they had them on clearance. It looks like they are still selling them for cheap. If anyone wants a good deal on these Bergers check out MidwayUSA. I'm not sure why they have them on clearance.

I've been slacking but I'm getting ready to run the bullets that I won in this thread out of my 270 WSM. I'll post updates after I shoot them. I'm running them 10 thousands off the lands at charge weights around my accuracy load with the Matrix 165. I'll shoot 4 groups and see what the gun likes.

Thanks again for the giveaway Robbie!

FYI , Marshall has sold Matrix bullets so I don't know when they will be available again. I was about to order some 6.5 150's and no luck.

Damn. I have a couple boxes of 165s but was hoping to have more. Hopefully the bergers shoot ok and they keep a good supply of them.

So if you're building a rifle to shoot these Berger 170's and using a 1/8 or 1/8.5 twist, are you eliminating being able to shoot lighter bullets that like a slower twist? I'd like to be able to shoot these and the 150 ABLR, or Accubond 140, or Berger 130. Would a 1/9 twist be a possibility?

Not at all., there's no real harm in over spinning a bullet except a tiny bit more drag and the extreme top velocity a bullet can withstand without coming apart would be a tiny bit lower. Get an 8 twist and go shoot anything you want.

My build has a 1-9 twist on it. I built it to shoot the Matrix 165s.

Since Shrek said Matrix was sold, I went to their website and emailed the guy (Stephan) that bought Matrix bullets. He said Marshal retained the .277 bullet dies. I then emailed Marshal and he said he may produce .277 bullets later but was taking a break for a while. I hope he does, they shot really well for me.
