My thread on rifle decision help was long winded and I’ve finally decided between two rifles. The tikka CTR and Bergara Ridge Special Purpose. I really would prefer the Bergara HMR but can’t justify the weight other than at the range.

Background: will be primarily used on whitetail in Arkansas (box stands and ladder stands) as well as plinking when I can find a range close to home past 200 yards. Hope to cash in points and go out west in a few years. The rifle will also have my 7” YHM Resonator Suppressor attached to it.

all of my local gun stores are currently out of both models and would have to order one for me whichever direction I go. So I haven’t handled these specific rifles. I have handled the normal Bergara ridge and the Tikka T3x Lite

Not to start a caliber debate but I am leaning towards .308 because I use to reload for it and have the dies and supplies and might get back into it. But I am weighing my options about switching to 6.5 creedemore

so what say ye? Anyone have/tried both? Pros and cons?

I would personally do the Bergara. Something about $90 mags bugs me. They are no better or worse than a PMAG or AICS by Magpul. The Bergara will do everything you need at a lower cost for the gun and the mags.

Also, make up your mind on the caliber before you buy. The 6.5 will technically beat the 308 at wind drift at any length but the energy is another matter.

All day on the bergara. Accuracy is uncanny. Customer service, if it’s ever needed, is top shelf and the receiver is the rem 700 clone. Tons of after market options.

I sold my tikka a few years ago. Felt like plastic and rattled the fillings in my mouth every time I shot it. The ridge is solid!!

I traded my ridge SP and would rather have had a Tikka. Tikkas load smoother, and they have better trigger timing.

It wasnt a bad rifle, it just wasnt for me.

I love my CTR 20". Hands-down the most fun and accurate factory rifle I own. Never shot a bergara, but it would have to be something very special to get me away from my Tikka.
