After reading multiple threads and posts on the best tripod opinions, I was able to put a set up together for just about $150 that I am really happy with. Decided on getting a Benro s2 pan head with a Slik Sprint Pro II (a Slik 634 wasn't in the budget). Total setup weight is an ounce or two over three pounds which will be nice for backpacking hunts!
Overall, the benro pan head is simply awesome. Very smooth and I love how the handle can be adjusted in various positions. Unlike some other heads I have had/tried, there is ZERO wobble in the plate once it's locked in. Affordable and great quality. Highly recommend!
The sprint pro II legs are awesome as well, especially for the price ($70). It goes to full standing height and weighs right around 2 lb. I was a little concerned of its stability with a full size cabelas euro spotter, but over all, it performed very well with my spotter at full height, as long as the wind wasn't howling. It isn't as rock solid as some other heavy models, but it's pretty damn good. Glassing with binoculars at full height was no problem at all. At sitting height, it is rock solid. Another bonus for me: I have always preferred flip legs over twist, just preference I guess, and this model has flip locks.
Thanks everyone for their input, this is a 100x better tripod setup that what I had previously and one that didn't break the bank.
(Special thanks to S&S archery for shipping that plate quickly just in time for my hunt!)
