Anybody have suggestions for a good belt? The belt needs to keep my pants up and carry my gear.

I would actually like one for myself which is capable of carrying a 4 pound revolver, but I don't want it to feel like a 4" ratchet strap around my waist. I plan on getting a chest holster, but also like to carry the gun on my hip. I have been using a 1.25" wide leather belt that is ~20 years old and it works even with that heavy gun, but I know there are better options out there.

Also looking for a good belt for my wife. Similar requirements for her, but she wouldn't be carrying any abnormally large handguns on it.

I know it's a simple question, but I'm always amazed that the good ideas that some people have!

Thanks!

I bought a Core4Element belt a few months ago off Camofire that I really like for backpacking. The buckle is low profile enough that it never causes me issues with my backpack. It's the only webbing belt I've had that holds reliably also. The weave thing that you do with the tag end was kind of awkward at first, but I got used to it. Core4 is out of business I guess, but it appears that identical belts are all over Amazon.
Looks just like this: Amazon.com: Dew Tactical Nylon Duty Army Belt For Men Military Style Casual Outdoor Adjustable Webbing Buckle Operator Belt for Men: Clothing

My girlfriend liked mine so much that she went looking for a similar one and ended up buying this one about a month ago. Seems to work just as well as mine, but it has a bottle opener so of course I want one too now haha.

For pistol carry, you really need a leather belt that won't twist. Otherwise, the barrell will flop around and dig in to your leg, the grip will lean away from you, etc. I'm only carrying a 21 ounce Sig 938 and a webbing belt gets annoying for me, even for IWB carry. The belt I use for CCW is from Aliengear. They also happen to be the holster I use for IWB. The OWB holster they sell is nice, but it's way too bulky to use for a subcompact. I'd like it just fine for a full size like a CZ75 or something though.

The steel core in this belt really does make a big difference. It's the first leather belt I've had that I can get wet snowboarding all day and it never stretches out. It did stretch about half a size initially, but two years later it hasn't moved any more.

In addition to the above suggestions, check out the Wilderness belt. I've used them for years and they are top-notch. Good for inside/outside waistband carry (stiff), great for emergency situations (in case you need to be airlifted out by the belt buckle!), and they also make them as a money belt (with an inside facing zipper). I wouldn't be without them and use one every day. Hope this helps...

P.S. I've found great deals on E-bay but be very careful with determining the proper length (see the Wilderness belt website) so you order the correct size.

I use a Blackhawk last resort belt. Basically the same belt I wear on duty. I have a few of them from over the years so one has worked it's way into my hunting stuff.

For a heavy pistol like a revolver, for sure use an internal stiffer. I use beltman. I've had one for many years now. My dad asked for one, I ended up buying him one too. I think mine it 8 years old now. Still looks and fits great. These are really, really nice. And well worth the price.

I also have one from the Beltman and several from A & G Custom Gunleather. Both great options that can carry a ton of weight and look great also.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of leather vs webbings belts?

I would get a leather belt with an internal stiffener. I assume that some webbing belts would have plastic stiffeners??

Again the main purpose of the belt is to carry a gun.

Thanks!

I prefer a leather belt for the support when I'm carrying. They also don't look tacticool - the whole point of concealment is to blend in. I also frequently need to carry while I'm wearing a dress shirt and slacks, and a webbing belt would look very out of place.

I prefer webbing belts when I'm backpacking because they have a little twist and stretch to them when I'm climbing. They're also lower profile and don't dig in to my hips like leather. It's also frequently nice to have infinite adjustment. Throughout the day, I may want to adjust the length of the belt to have it ride differently, and leather belts leave you bouncing between two adjustment holes when you really want one right in the middle.

For a webbing belt I have super good luck with the Kifaru. I carry my 10mm on it all the time and it doesn't slip. Low profile and doesn't mind under my pack.

Hill People Gear belt is absolutely the best I have ever used. Especially great underneath a pack.
