I want to get an ILF recurve to start shooting around with, may try to hunt with it in the future but mainly just looking for a new discipline to dive into.

Anyone have any recommendations on a solid ILF recurve setup for under $500?

So many good options out there it’s hard to point to just one. You can get a cheap ILF riser for as low as 40 bucks.

This one wouldn’t be a bad choice at $75
WNS 21”

I like these limbs for $200 in longs
Motive C5

A guy could go for a cheaper version like these at $130
Deltas

that riser above with those Delta limbs would make one heck of a bow for $250.
My bet is that if you get tired of it you could easily sell it for close to that on archery talk

I would stick with the name brand limbs, have them help you order a string and arrows at the same time. Or you could plug that set up into the Stu Miller calculator and get pretty close to what arrows do you need. hey field point test kit is crucial when dialing these arrows in-75gr-300gr

I've been considering these Uukha Tuulai limbs for $250, and I like the WNS above. How do you know what length string you need?

What other misc. gear do you need to start with a recurve?

There is a chart somewhere on the Internet for these ILF risers and limbs. That 21” riser with long ILF limbs makes a 66” recurve. Many will consider this long, it doesn’t have to be this long, but long is good for learning on. Plus you can play with string walking fixed crawl that type of thing and see what you like.

The general rule of thumb is to order the stream 3 inches shorter than the recurve so a 66 would take a 63 inch String.

Arrows, Tab, or glove.... and an armguard. Look up how to tie in your knocking point,

I went this route,

Samick Discovery riser - $224

Samick Discovery R3 limbs - $105

Fast Flight Flemish twist string - $10

Shipping was around $29. About $368 all in. Delivered in two days.

How do you like the Samick Discovery riser? I've really been narrowing down on combining that with these Uukah limbs:

Is this website legit? I'm in the market for an affordable ILF setup myself. Just curious how their prices can be so much lower than other places like 3 Rivers- especially the limbs.

I wondered about this website too. They have great prices, but it looks like the shipping is also around $35-$40 for a riser and limbs.

They are legit. Very well spoken of at Archery Talk forums, and others.

I've ordered from them twice in the last year. Received email notifications and fast UPS International express shipping. Both orders arrived at my door in two days.

I will order from them again without hesitation.

I think my shipping was less than that, but then things have been changing lately. The only shipping option I had was UPS International express, and the merch was here in two days on two separate orders. I was very impressed.

I've purchased from them recently. 3rivers actually gave me their info because I was looking to purchase the upgraded steel limb bolts for my samick discovery riser and 3rivers doesn't carry them. I made the purchase and received an email right away. Got another when it shipped the next day and received part within 5 days. I'll be using them again!

I bought an exe scream 17” riser through Lancaster and have been pretty happy with it.

The hardware are solid and I like the insert for shooting off the shelf as well as the look of it.

It shoots excellent with my 40# Blackmax 2.0 limbs but I’m having issues tuning it with 50# DAS longbow limbs if anyone has any tips.

If you want a $200 17” aluminum riser for hunting I think the scream is a good choice, but there are certainly better long risers at that price point.

I just bought a new blemished pse ghost off eBay for like 160 shipped. Don’t have it in hand, but there are a few reviews out from a few years ago. Didn’t see much else ILF compatible for near that price. They only had right hand 55lb available from what I could see.

I can follow up here when I get it all in. Snowpocalypse here in louisiana will have things delayed a while I’m sure.

I have a samick discovery riser and 50lb R3 limbs I will let go for 300 shipped. It's just sitting here collecting dust!
