Bedding X-Bolt Hell’s Canyon Speed aftermarket stock

I took my X-bolt HCS to gunsmith to have him re-bed it. He told me he couldn’t bed the plastic injection molded stocks because the bedding material couldn’t reliably adhere. Is this true? He recommended I find an aftermarket stock, which I have been unable to so far. The best I found is a McMillan, but it is for a heavy contour X-bolt. Am I out of luck?

Why bed it or find a new stock? Is it not shooting?

I’m trying to make it more accurate and consistent. Apparently it is factory bedded, but it sounds like a stiffer stock and/or re-bedding might make it more consistent.

The bedding job on mine looked pretty solid. Only concern I had was how close the barrel channel was to touching the barrel, but that could be easily opened up with a dremel or some sandpaper.

Regarding bedding compounds, I'm not sure what your smith was talking about. Every bedding job I've done using Marine Tex has adhered strongly and permanently to all sorts of stocks.

Both my HC Speed 30 06 and Max Long Range 300 Win Mag shoot lights out with no bedding issues. The bedding on the 2 are not the prettiest but I've had no issues so I left them alone. I did swap out both triggers with a Timney.

Sent my 300 Win off to Pendelton Ammunition for a custom load development. With 220 grain ELDX's getting 2795 fps and 0.55 MOA at 100 yards!!!!!

If it's already sub-moa just ask yourself what you are asking of the rifle and if you will really see a return on the dollars you are going to spend.

Like TNKnoxville did, you'd probably see the most return for your dollar reloading or having a load developed for it if you don't already.

There is definitely a way to bed it. Maybe it takes a little roughing up the stock surface or using a different compound than the gunsmith prefers. It’s not like browning has some super secret compound that bonds when no others will.

mcmillan told you they’d only inlet for a heavy barrel? That seems odd..

I bought a laminated eclipse model stock for my xbolt 300wsm a few years back for a more rigid option than the flimsy Tupperware one.. never used it and would be willing to sell it for a good price if the action inlet is right. Sporter barrel contour.

I’m going to have the smith take a look at it and make a recommendation. As far as custom loads go, I’d like to stick to factory ammo if I can. With me shooting the gun, I get about 1.5 MOA. With guys who are professional shooters, they can get 1 MOA out of it with factory ammo. I’d like to get 1 MOA with me behind it. I’m doing what I can to improve the rifle and I’m taking shooting instruction to work on my abilities.

my wife has a western hunter in 26 nosler that shoots lights out i would spend as much time behind the trigger as you can other wise your throwing good money after bad IMHO
