Hi All! A quick question about Beaver planes on Kodiak. The sticker shock for flight prices is intense. Any tips on how to not spend $2500 round trip just flying the island? Thanks!

Kodiak transporter rates are based upon weight and distance. The beavers having the highest payload (Generally 1200lbs max, Seahawk will go to 1500 lbs) you can save money by cutting weight and flying into a spot closer to town. Cutting weight can get you into a smaller plane like a 180 also.

No need for a Beaver unless you got 3-4 people in which case the split price shouldn’t be near that. There are companies operating both 185s and 206s which bring down the hourly rate nearly 1K/hr. They offer plenty room/weight for two people and camp.

It’s been a couple years since I hunted Kodiak, but it was $1600 for drop off and $1600 for the pickup on south end with a 206. So $1600 per person for me and one other guy.

There are three reputable companies and they all price a little differently (or at least they did) so call each.

If you keep your weight under 800# Sea Hawk will give you the 206 rate even though they only operate a beaver. Island Air has all kinds of planes including a cub on floats and 180 on wheels. If you pack light its possible to fly in with a small plane and then out on a beaver to accommodate all the meat you'll hopefully be backhauling.

Seahawk was around $3800
Sorry, fat fingered the post button too soon. That was for 3 guys to the south end 2.5 years ago, for a spring Bear. We got the saltwater price for a small lake. Few extra dollars for cursing the beach on the way in looking for a whale carcass.
