Planning a hunt in Idaho and I know what I plan on using for bear protection, but wanted to hear what other are using. Spray and, or caliber?

Funny, first two replys were Glock 10mm, which is exactly what I was going to use. How about bullets. I was looking at extreme penetrator from Lehigh defense

Oh gotcha, didn't know if you were going to be in grizz country or not. Ignore my 380 suggestion

In grizzly country, bear spray and one of my 4" barrel revolvers in .44 or .357. Depends on how much weight I want to carry that day.

If no grizzly are around, I don't carry either while hunting. If I get something down, I snag one of the above revolvers from the truck for the pack out.

Look at Underwood Ammunition. They offer some good bear defense options with hard cast or mono-metal bullets. They have a 10MM load with a 220gr hard cast that would be hard to beat.

4" .44 with Buffalo Bore 305 grain lead pills. I'd prefer to shoot the 340s but they are a little too hot and heavy for the lightweight frame on my gun.

Currently spray and a Ruger Bisley .45 Colt with 325gr. hard cast. But am also considering a Glock 20.

I shoot the Underwood 200 grain hardcast, I don't really have any other knowledge on ammo I just picked these up and they shoot fine out of my Glock 20

I carry a glock 20 and use Double Tap 200 gr WFNGC Hardcast bullets. When you research bullets this bullet design is far superior to most others out there. I don’t care if the box flap velocity is a little inflated because they shoot well, function 100% over the past 7 years and I’m confident that is the best bullet I can carry and the rest is up to me to make the shot. Recently 406Ammunition has started producing 200 gr similar bullet for very good price and in asking around a little I found they are using the BVAC machines and one guy has a former connection with Double Tap. I haven’t shot enough of the 406 to recommend over DT yet but I bought a few boxes for practice and they are doing well

No Grizzly where I hunt so a rock works pretty well. That said, I carry either an XDS 45 or S&W 340PD .357 every day of the year, all day any time my pants are on.

Glock 10MM and standard 180gr loads during archery season. Rifle during rifle season. I like the key chain pepper spray post above...may adopt.

5½" Super Blackhawk in .44mag. I load it with my own handloads. 320gn hard cast gc bullets at around 900fps. Not silly hot & not punishing recoil, but they'll go stem to stern through a decent sized hog. I figure if it comes to it, they'd go through the roof of a bear's mouth!

Bear spray and 12gauge! No joke we have had more g-bear fun than I like. Mossberg shockwave is the best weight to cost that I have found.
