Wanted to share my success on last seasons otc Colorado Hunt with you all. I shot this cow with my recurve and gave her a good hour before taking up the blood trail. I quietly tracked her to her resting place only to find that a bear had beat me to her! Pretty eery feeling when you heard nor saw anything when arriving on scene lolAAA3ADFD-DB7B-4694-ABD7-36AA35C39625.jpegD481AFF8-AF8A-4EC5-8970-A287DAE72380.jpegE3E1C000-D721-45DD-A07A-0A716B26255F.jpeg

Damn Yogi! My first archery deer was shot late and I ended up having to wait until the next morning to finish the tracking. Damn bear ate half of one rear quarter and tore the guts up, making the field dress a mess. Wish I had known about gutless back then.

Congrats though!

Wow! The bear started with its FACE! Never would have expected that!

Nice job btw. I bet you were looking over your shoulder a good bit while getting her quartered! I know I would have been!

Not sure I would share that picture of the tag. It's an otc tag, so you're not giving away your unit, but it does show your full name, DOB and CID.

Eating the tongue of prey animals is actually not uncommon behavior for predators. Orcas frequently kill other whales and eat only the tongue and select organs. That trail cam video is insane, great work!

Holy cow man! It had to be an eerie feeling cutting her up wondering if you were being watched. Congrats on your success!

About three years ago in Pennsylvania whitetail archery I had the same thing happen. I stuck a doe just before dusk and actually heard the bear kill the doe about 100 yards away. I figured that I could run the bear off the doe so I hurried up and came upon three cubs and a sow on the kill. I was not taking that chance, especially in the dark, so I backed out and came back the next morning to find a fifth bear had joined them. They made short work of the deer overnight. Definitely the craziest hunting story that I have.

Shot my first elk in Colorado as well. We gave the bull and hour before tracking. When we got there, a bear was on it, and ate the balls off. Seems like there are quite a few black bears in CO. Congrats on your elk.
