That's awesome! Congrats and felt like I could feel your pain when it comes to feet. Sounds like a once in a lifetime hunt for sure. A lot of work and glad it all paid off in the end for y'all. Did you do anything to get ready for the mountain trek(exercise wise)? What would be something you would recommend to do to prepare for mountain or rugged hunts? I live in Florida and I'm going to start planning hunts in a couple years for mountain hunts(not your hunt elk, deer, bear, etc). I have some points that are about ready to burn.

My workouts focused all on more functional stuff. I’ve always lifted weights but since booking this hunt, I did not have a single day of strict weight lifting in the gym at all.

All my workouts varied from:

-Mtn tough workouts at least 3-4 times a week

-weighted rucks started at 2 miles with 60 pound pack and eventually made it to where I could do 6 miles 60 # pack with ease.

-weighted stair walks at home since I didn’t have access to stadiums or anything like

-lots of stretching, YouTube yoga videos and lots and lots of hip mobility stuff.


I remember one day while I was trying to get up a mountain, I remember thinking to myself, “man I should’ve been driving out to the beach and sand dunes and been doing rucks in them”. Depends on where you’re at in Florida, but if you can get to some dunes with a weighted pack, I feel like that’s closest a flat lander can get to “train for a mountain”. Even though they freaking suck, add in lots of lunges and Bulgarian split squats to your workout regiment prior to your hunt. I think that stuff helped out a ton. Especially just for hips to be ready.
