Bathe or Not

Water is all I use.

Even 4th rifle, it’s no issue to drop trou and hang my ass over a trickle of water and wash butt and balls daily. Early seasons I’ll splash water on my face and upper body. I’m not worried about how I smell, but if I’m packed in for multiple days I’m washing for hygiene and good habits just like I do backpacking. Just because it’s backpack hunting, it doesn’t need to be some kind of combat endeavor.

For 7 days in the elk woods or 14 days on a moose hunt, I just occasionally use wet wipes on the pits and undercarriage.

I pretty much wear the same outfit for the entire hunt. My buddy and I joke about getting excited for the midweek change of underwear...

If we are basecamping from the truck, we might take a sun shower but I haven't used it yet.

I have used a sun shower on spring canoe trips. They work pretty well but I would never haul one on a backpacking hunting trip.

I carry a small bottle of biodegradable soap. Find a creek, get nekkid and endure the frozen frank & beans!
It does a lot for me mentally to get cleaned up after 2-3 days of hard hunting, especially in the early season.
Same here. I feel better and hunt harder when I take 5 minutes to bathe, even if it is an ice cold creek. After 48 hours of no bath, my hair has enough natural oil in it that it looks like gel. I generally take a half a bar of soap and it serves as a head to toe scrub.
