Nothing sinister, just that in the same way that guys returning from WWII wanted to get out in the woods, I think a lot of people, after being in the military, had a renewed interest in adventure in the form of hunting or camping. I think for a lot of people, after spending time in the military, they enjoy shooting, which leads to hunting, and for a lot of them golf and baseball or video games just don't satisfy them anymore. Also, the way wars were fought in the middle east really saw snipers came into their own in a way they hadn't in previous wars. Add in new tech such as rangefinders and it's no surprise at all to me that things like PRS got really popular, then so did DIY type western hunting.I know it is off topic, but interested to hear more about this theory.
Of course I think COVID had an impact too, but I think the GWOT led to a resurgence of greater interest in manly hobbies.
