Any know if the Fieldcraft carbon fiber butt stock can be shortened?
I’d prefer a shorter LOP.
I have an email off to Barrett. Just never know how soon you can expect a reply.

You can shorten any stock you want no matter the material. Its a pretty straightforward process diy or any gunsmith will do it for a 150$ or so.

Yeah I asked this same question a while back as well. If AG Composites do make the stock, it would probably be best to ask them. If anyone actually goes ahead with this, please post the results with photos.

Straight off the Barrett website states no shortening of the stock is authorized (whatever that means) by the user.

It is a simple operation that I charge about $100-$125 depending on the pad of choice. AG composites is very secretive on these stocks they supply to Barrett. A year ago they would not sell an aftermarket stock to fit a Barrett or even a Forbes (which is the exact same stock). I was ready to buy about a dozen of them but they refused to even entertain it at AG.

I would recommend you find a decent rifle builder and contract them to shorten the stock. Very simple operation.

Ben if you want your stock shortened text me and I can do that for you.

I was concerned that the butt stock may be hollow and only have screw boss’ at the very back of the butt. If that’s how it’s mounted. I guess I never looked to see if it’s epoxied.

AG will not touch it because of Barrett.
So the end user still doesn’t own his rifle????

The pads are epoxied on. A good chop saw and high tooth saw blade does a great job with them.

You are the end user but it will void any warranty that may or may not be with the serial number. But if the rifle don’t fit you that is a bummer as well.

Thanks for the input.

I sent a 270 Fieldcraft back to the factory for a ejection problem and at that time talked one of the managers who arranged my repairs. Ive shortened several composite and wood stocks and fitted new recoil pads but never have done a carbon fiber stock and was concerned about making a clean cut without having a fuzzy cut as Ive had happen on a kevlar stock. I asked about it and He said any reputable gunsmith should be able to do it same as other composites.

So the results are in.. A Fieldcraft stock can indeed be shortened. I just received mine back from my awesome gunsmith. He took a half inch off of it and installed a new pad. The whole process took about 3 hours total he said. I absolutely love the gun now. It fits me so much better, especially when shooting prone. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

I wonder if their contractual obligations with Barrert have changed now that the Fieldcraft is discontinued?

I hate to revive an old thread, but I’m looking to give my Fieldcraft about a 1” haircut. Any chance you can share a few photos of how yours turned out?
