Hey guys, have done some research on here and elsewhere...and there is another similar thread but didn't want to hijack it with my situation.

I have a 7PRC Zermatt Origin action with a 24" carbon match barrel...I run it suppressed and am flirting hard with swapping out the barrel to something 18" or 20". The barrel is great, w/only a couple hundred rounds fired, shoots well under an inch if I do my job but I'm tired of dealing with the length.

I want to look at getting either a 20" or 18" barrel for it and have sort of a two part question. I do not reload, and shoot factory ammo for now (just don't have the time to get obsessed with something else at the moment). This would also be my first real opportunity to select the barrel of my choosing for my situation...and I want to make the best one.

1. As for barrel length with factory ammo, does anyone have real world chrono data for eld-m/x or similar out of any 7prc, but specifically a really high quality barrel. I can get a pretty good idea of what I THINK it'll do based off of my actual chrono data, and cutting off 25fps or so per inch. But wanted to see if anyone else has any hard data, and larger data set for a high quality/fast short 7PRC barrel. I know I won't be able to take full advantage of the PRC with a shorter barrel (or in general with factory), but I'm okay sacrificing that for now. I will reload eventually, but not yet.

2. Barrel....best ones out there that you guys have had experience with from your swaps or customs? Not concerned about the cost, I want the best barrel I can buy that will result in the best speeds/accuracy at said barrel length. I know proof, of course and am fine with Carbon but I don't care what the rifle looks like, just want it to stack bullets and kill things. I know Bartlein, benchmark, proof, etc...but am by no means a barrel expert, or expert on what makes x barrel better than other higher end barrel. Shots on game would be out to 800 yds, but most shots on game are between 300-600. General shooting out to 1k. Also, it'll need to be 5/8x24 and i'd prefer something with a little meat on it, but without being overly heavy. Just don't want a pencil. Going for lighter and balanced...not an ultralight build.

Thanks!!

IMG_7680.jpegJust screwed this one together bought a savage 110 storm 7prc on the cheap removed factory barrel and just put the cheap 20” outlier carbon barrel on it and put it in a stockys carbon. 6lb 4 oz with magazine. I plan to put together some 180 eldm and run a few rounds through it in the next few weeks. If I get lazy I might grab a box of factory ammo and “season” the barrel a bit. if I do I will post some chrono speeds when I get it out.

One of these Osprey Barrel Works prefit barrels from Patriot Valley Arms. Pick your action, pick your cartridge, pick your contour, pick your length, pick your muzzle thread, pick your twist, pick your fluting, pick your cerakote. Wait a few weeks for delivery and screw it on. Save yourself some money and stay with a steel barrel versus carbon. But they offer carbon if you want it

Defiance Action / Proof 20", all factory ammo, all group similarly when I do my job:
Hornady 175 ELDX - 2875fps
Hornady 180 ELDM - 2820fps
Federal 175 ELDX - 2950fps
Federal 155 Terminal Ascent - 3025fps

Spun a brand new Bartlein 20” CFW 400modBB barrel on, here are some comparisons to a broken in Bartlein 21” SS barrel and also another rifle with 24” Bartlein CFW, all with Kelbly Nanook action. All 8 twist, suppressed.

Hornady 175 ELDX ammo (same lot)
20” new = 2,830
21” new = 2,837
21” broken in = 2,899
24” = 2,969

Handload, 168 ABLR, 66.0 N560, F210M, ADG 0x brass
20” new = 2,835
21” broken in = 2,909
24” barrel = 3,017
