Barrel cleaning when moving away from monolithic

Quick question almost not worthy of it's own thread but thought I'd ask...

Before switching to monos I did a deep clean on the barrel down to bare metal, which I read was the general rule. Having tried some monos and not being thoroughly bought into the idea, I'm going to go back to try some Bergers and ELD-M pills. Is it worth breaking out the BoreTech and starting over, or just stop freaking out about all the minutiae and shoot the damn thing? Thanks!

I’d start clean, strip it down. It’s not that big a deal and it is once.

To simplify deep copper cleaning I’ve been quite happy running one wet patch with copper remover down the tube and letting it sit 10 minutes, then another wet patch and let it sit 10 minutes - repeat as long as needed. Long periods of brushing and alternating dry patches and wet patches is a thing of the past for me.

Depending on the mono and amount of them you shot id doubt you have enough copper fouling to matter.
I’d go shoot your lead ammo and if accuracy wasn’t acceptable clean it to rule out a possible culprit.

It will end up being only about 30rds. I've been trying to find a load the rifle likes so gave Barnes LRX a try, had the exact same 1.75"-2.0" groups. No change in accuracy, so back to the drawing board.

I had the same concern for a Kimber Montana that I had worked a load up for the 127 Barnes LRX, it shot well, but decided to shoot 143 ELDX after spending time here. I had shot maybe 4-600 rounds of the Barnes bullet, went directly to the 143 ELDx without cleaning and it didn’t seem to make a lick of difference, it shoots very well with the 143 ELDx…..long story short, I was too lazy to clean and it hasn’t seemed to make a difference.

If you still want to try monos, try maker trex or pva Cayugas. I have had great accuracy with both. Trex about. 050 off the lands and Cayuga start at .080.
