just to prove I'm an open minded guy I'm gonna grab some 168 Berger Classics for the UL '06 and see if I can get a good load, I'm confident I will, and I'll use that bullet for my bull hunt in November - Not going to commit but if there are no mishaps I'll then use the 168 for damage control hunts in December - I'll do my best to get pictures and I'll report on meat damage (if there's any)

Since my last post we have taken 3 Elk during the deprivation rifle season with my 300 win and 215 Bergers. Distances of 450, 550 and 650 yards and change. All 3 by hunters that had never taken an elk before. All 3 one shot kills and none made it out of the immediate area. None experienced any meat loss other than a hand full of between rib meat. This puts my old 300 win at 27 and zero for cold bore one shot kills on big game. I guess I will keep using it and the Bergers for now.

Oh, you are so close minded!

You could be right. But update these stats to 7 elk this season and the 300 win is at 31 for one shot kills. Headed out tonight with a 7mm-300 and the new 195 Bergers to see how they do. Smoked a yote at 625 yards with a 195 yesterday and the terminal performance and expansion was graphic.

Guess I would have to disagree that the barnes is a better hunting bullet than the berger. The bergers are extremely accurate, have a much better BC and have done everything they are supposed to do. Totally different bullet construction and effectiveness between the two. I am a vital guy and that is what I shoot for. NEVER had an animal escape. But this is just my opinion from personal experience and I really like the bergers.

Bad things happen with hot rounds and low grain Berger. Bergers excel at low impact velocities but fail at high. TTSX excels at high impact velocities but is sub par at low.

Every bullet made is designed for a specified impact velocity range. Exceed or go below you have issues. Neither is better then the other when used with in its specifications.

I've had bad bad things happen with a VLD in a 257wby at the same token I've pushed a tsx to far down range and had less then stellar results.

I like them both hot and light on tsx and moderate and heavy on berger IMO. Push the envolope on range you can't beat berger
