Depends on your distances and what you are trying to achieve. In my kids 308: I load the 168 ttsx with Vargas around 2670 fos and will never go back on those guns. Love the heavy for caliber bullet in the 308.

I love hammers as well the 151 absolute hammer in my 30-06. They tend to run around 100fps faster than other bullets. I would guess you could get them going close to the same velocity as the 130ttsx.

The apex 135 or 144 would be a really good option in that short barrel and keep the velocity a lot further than any other copper bullet of that weight.
For terminal performance, I'd go with the 135gr DRT.

They are pretty proud of the their Apex bullets, but may try some thanks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been shooting a light weight 308 so I have been shooting 150s to help with the recoil. This new gun I am trying to keep light also but it will have a can. For deer and bear where I hunt in PA a 200 yard shoot is about max so 130 to 150 grain should work well. Hope to see bullet strikes. I have only seen 1 good strike and it was with a 300 wsm go figure.

at those ranges it won't matter what bullet you use it will do the job. Those light weight hammers would be devastating at those ranges

Adding a can and shooting 130ish gr bullets will definitely help you spot your impacts.

I have shot both ttsx and hammers and I would choose the hammers everytime now.
Ive seen a bull shot at 600 yards with the 180hh and it expanded as it should. Ive shot two bucks in the last year with the 155hh out of a 7prc both dropped quickly and produced great blood trails. In my opinion the hammers are consistent at opening up even at lower impact velocities compared to the barnes.

I moved away from Hammer for my 300WSM because of the minimum velocity for expansion for hunting, Steve says 1800 minimum, and moved to Barnes LRX. The 3 to 400 fps difference means a lot and the cost difference is huge if you want to shoot more than the prerequisite annual scope zero.
When I finish building my 300 SWSM I'll be running the Barnes 212 LRX Bore Rider and I cannot wait to shoot it out past 1K yds.
The pic is my 1st load development but when the weather cooperates I'll tighten it up a bit. At 3120 fps it's looking good.

More like 1500-1600 fps from what I've seen and read, the Vortex guys had full expansion at 875 yds shooting into 20% Nato gel.

If you’re wanting to go light on recoil , don’t overlook the 125gr nosler ballistic tip

Here a screen grab of Geo Ballistics showing at 875 that bullet is moving at speeds marginal for Hammer Bullets but the 212 LRX Bore Rider had full expansion in a 20% gel block.

I stopped shooting lead when copper monos became available, only lead I shoot is shotshell and only at clay.

Gel is not terribly comparable to animals in my opinion. Monos are not the bullet of choice for longer range hunting, the right lead bullet though can be deadly at some extreme ranges
