Ballistics app

I ditched the Hornady app for AB Elite. Applied Ballistics has the most accurate BC library out the gate, so it's been easier to get good data out of it.

The hornady app kind of sucks I could never really get exactly what I wanted out of it. It's built too much like a video game there's too much sliding and spinning just let me type in numbers for Pete's sake.

Totally agree, AB is better. You might also want to check out GeoBallistics.
If you're using Android, you can try downloading Strelok Pro (though it’s not the most straightforward process). In my opinion, it’s the best ballistics app out there so far.

AB is much better in my opinion and I am no where near as schooled on this stuff as a lot here.
I found the AB a lot more user friendly.

I'm trying the Hornaday app. Very complex, with alot of options. Anyone master it?

I use Hornadys 4DOF and it works for me. I probably don’t use all of its features but I don’t think it’s anymore complicated than any other app. I do also like Shooter but use Hornady more.

PSA…I have been a long time Hornady App user and been pretty happy. I went to print off my tables today for the start of 8-weeks of straight hunting and a bunch of stuff is deleted/changed (back to the reset). This was after a summer of carefully curating each rifle/load out to 800.

I am apoplectic. I now am downloading a new app, scheduling a range time (with the last minute masses) to re-dial my data, before I leave on Friday. F-Hornady!

I used Hornady. It deleted all my data. I got pissed and bought Strelok.

Loved Strelok while I had it. Then it got banned from the app stores.

I tried Hornady again, started using it and enjoying it. Then bam it deletes all my data again.

I got AB and haven’t looked back. Especially now that the quantum app will give you the elite access if you have a kestrel with AB. I’ve always had the kestrel but I enjoy the phone app for just tinkering on the range.

I've used the shooter app and then the sig BDX app which is ran with AB ballistics. Typically they're pretty close but last weekend I put a buddy's 300wm load in on both and had very different results. I used the custom bullet profile in the BDX app and input the factory BC for the shooter app. The shooter app was roughly 2 MOA low at 500yds.

It could be user error but I've found that the BDX app works well and usually requires a small amount of tuning but that's not abnormal by any means. The shooter app is more in depth and you can tweak more inputs. So if you like to fiddle then that might be better. Not sure if you can get the BDX app standalone, it is linked to my kilos.

Any idea how this happened?

My data is synced to my cloud account with Hornady automatically. I can see my data on other devices once I sign in.

I responded to another member who stated that Hornady had deleted their data. Any idea how or when this happened? My data is automatically synced to my Hornady account, but I don't like hearing that data is getting deleted.

I use the GeoBallastics app and like it quite a bit. The reticle feature where you select your optic and then provides all of the reticle data at your various magnifications is pretty slick. It also auto syncs with my rangefinder.

I used AB for a long time and it was fine. I didnt love the user interface, but I could live with it. I tried 4DOF briefly but found the user interface cumbersome. And 4DOF gave me different results to AB, and AB had been working for me up to that point. Also, the 4DOF library of bullets is mostly limited to Hornady offerings for obvious reasons - and while other bullets can be manually entered, I couldnt be bothered to load everything I needed.

I tried Strelock Pro 6-7 years ago and prefer that over everything else I have tried. I like the user interface the best out of everything I have tried. And the "dark mode" display is easier for me to read in all but the strongest sunshine. I have used Strelock for all my shooting which is out to around 800 yards and the data has been very reliable.

No idea. My only assumption was an app update did it? I just went to open it one day and it took me to the log in screen and after logging in I had nothing. I deleted the app and re downloaded, still nothing. Contacted Hornady CS and they told me they couldn’t see anything in their end. Etc.

I’ve used Hornady, Shooter, Strelok, Revic, and Geoballistics.

Geoballistics was the first app I used. I kinda felt like it was overly complex. It had a lot of options I didn’t use. When I swapped phones in a job change, I went looking for other options and ended up with Strelok.

Strelok got deleted off my phone and removed from Apple and Android sites for a while there after the start of the war in Ukraine because it is a Russian product. It’s back up now and is a good package, but I just moved on when it got deleted. It’s still a good app. It has some gee-wiz stuff that I don’t use, like being able to specify a scope reticle and show your holds for a specific shot. I’m sure that would be cool for scopes that don’t have simple mil reticles. But who would want to depend on something like that or take the time to use it in the field?

I’ve been using shooter for about 3 years. It’s the cheapest and simplest, but it works well and I like it. It does allow you to save your profile, so you don’t lose your dope if something happens to your phone.

Hornady is by far the wonkiest of all the ones I’ve used in terms of results. The rest all output consistent results across the board. Hornady sometimes doesn’t. It seems to be fairly consistent if your shooting Hornady bullets, not so much if you’re not.

Last year I picked up a set of the Gen 1 Revic 10x40 rangefinding binos and I’ve been using their app alongside Shooter. They both give consistent results. I’d still be using Shooter if it were not for the onboard ballistics in the Revic binos. If you can go that route, it’s worth it. If not, Shooter just works, it’s simple to figure out, and it’s not expensive.

Is it in the Apple store? I just checked Play store again and it doesn't come up. I will literally abandon Android as a life-long user and switch to an iPhone if it's available on the Apple store. lol
