Hello,

I'm looking for a reasonably light weight ball head for occasional shooting. I have a Silk 733 that I shoot off sometimes with a VA-5 head. I want to be able to cant and quickly lock down the head for shooting. I'm looking at the Aziak Front country head. Any other suggestions?

I have the Aziak backcountry lite ball head. I’ve used it for target shooting with my 300 wm hunting rifle with a slik tripod. Probably 150 rounds off it. The arca rail will slide out slowly after about 3-5 shots, despite trying to tighten the little knob. I brought it on my last 2 hunts but haven’t had a chance to shoot an animal with it. Prefer to shoot off my pack when the brush allows. Works okay for glassing but I am planning to switch to a lightweight pan head for that (tricer LP). The front country head came out after I bought my backcountry, I think. Aziak stuff is well built.
I have considered the Tricer DZ (pan head and ball head) but that adds some weight and cost.

Take a look at the Benro ball heads at the link below. They are not the lightest but they can handle any kick from a rifle. Those that bought them, love them.
