Baited Brown Bear Hunts

Has anyone ever done a baited brown bear hunt in Alaska? I noticed Jonah Stewart and several other outfitters are now offering them and I'm curious how they compare to traditional spot and stalk brown bear hunts. Particularly success rates. If you have done one, how did you like it? Were you successful? What outfitter did you use, and would you recommend that outfitter?

First client of the season has come and gone. Baits are getting worked over fairly well. Three baits currently going and one is running 2-3 bags of dog food a night so I’m busy flying. First Clients bear approx 25” skull and a shade under 9’ is my guess. I never put a tape on it.

I bowhunted a brown bear with Jonah Stewart a decade ago. The late great bowhunter Roy Roth was the guide. Was glad it was Roy leading the way on a 200 yard long blood trail in the thick alder and willows leading to the brown that I'd arrowed at 12:40 AM in early June. Waited 'till 7:00 AM to trail it. Arrow had just clipped the bottom of the heart and bear ran until running out of blood. Great hunt!

Just did one with Jake Jefferson and it was awesome. Nice bonus to shoot black bears and they keep you occupied while waiting for a brown bear. Highly recommend it. I have hunted a lot of black bear and this was my first baited hunt. I have to say it was a great time. A lot of the hunts are also a little more budget friendly and the logistics are easier. Go do it! You won’t regret it. I hope to do it again soon!!

I have been looking into a baited hunt also, I am just curious if everyone thinks an older smart boar would visit a baited sight????

if you look some of the trophies he posted (@BRWNBR ) some are old. bears are clever but nothing can beat the feast of a full stomach ... remember the season is short for them before going back to the den ...

Take them Out on dates to the bait…some meet at the bait….
