Bait barrel chain size

Hey all, deciding to switch to chain for my bait barrels. What size chain are you all using, is 3/16” enough or should a guy go 1/4”. Black bears only

3/16” has worked for me so far.

Lot cheaper buying your chain through a trapping supply place. Hardware stores are a ripoff when it comes to chain prices. Same with quick links.

Hardware in general at any corporate retailer or hardware store has an outrageous markup.

I use this.. cheap, lightweight, easy to carry, and lasts

W/P 2500 Lb Polyester Pull Tape

Overhand loop on tree end and prusik knot on barrel or visa versa..

Rope lighter works fine.
