Badlands Precision Bullets anyone try them?

Yeah I've been playing with some BD2S but I'm really hesitant to use them on game at long range.
There's just not enough violent expansion from what I'm seeing at lower impact velocities to creat a big wound channel.
Bergers are still the best beyond 400 yards in my opinion, most of my kills are beyond that or I'd probably only shoot copper
That's a fair point. Personally I just dont like the performance of bergers and most recently the eldx at closer ranges. My first few kills with the eld-x were at 400+ yards and i was very happy, then had a couple at less than 250 and was really disappointed. I am more often in the sub 500 club than beyond, however my goal is to end up with a setup where range doesnt matter. I still think the hammer or this BD2 is the best fit for me. The extra bc and lower expansion fps sure makes the BD2 more appealing in a long range setup like a 7saum.

FWIW, I killed a pig with a 110gr .257 BD2 at 200 yards with 3100fps impact velocity and it hammered him. I think they’re a good choice for usual hunting distances with the occasional 500 yard shot. But not my favorite for dedicated long range.

Might be difficult to get badlands when one of the dudes who makes them goes to prison.

Yikes! They have been very quick to reply to my fb messages lately, guess they had nothing better to do..... That's quite disturbing

Yikes…I just bought a big pile of 250gr SBD2s off the classifieds a few months back. Probably not going to stick with those….

No need to jump to conclusions without getting accurate information.

I got a chance to talk to George (owner of Badlands Precision), had a good long conversation with him about many things related to the business. I am employed in the Justice system, and will preface this with a reminder of how our justice system functions, all people are innocent unless proven guilty.

First things first, nothing major is going to change with the business, regardless of what happens with Jason's situation. His title for the company is a machinist, as well as a bullet tester. He has been a large and important portion of the company without a doubt. Jason is out on bond, and has been cooperative and doing a good job in training a newly hired machinist to take over in the possibility of his absence. His trial date is December 21st I believe.

Next, to address the issues some have been seeing with having a hard time getting good accuracy. George was seeing the same issues in one of his rifles, went through many things checking his rifle, and narrowed it down to a problem with the bullets, he was seeing a large amount of runout. First, they checked the machine, went through everything including replacing bearings on a relatively new machine, to no avail. He then sent some bullets off to a metallurgist, and the composition of the copper was consistent. Through process of elimination, they came to the conclusion it was stress in the copper itself.

Starting around the time of covid was when the manufacturing of the copper started to go down hill. They were finding stress in the copper that was releasing upon machining, leading to extreme run out, at times in larger bullets up to .010". Another problem they were seeing with the copper was the poor transportation for delivery, even having some copper unusable due to being broken. After a large amount of testing different copper, they have recently resolved this issue and changed copper suppliers, and now have a supply of good copper that should likely last a couple years. Newly produced bullets are back to having great consistency, and should resolve the previously seen issues.

I hope this clears some things up. George is a great guy, very open and honest, and does a great job communicating. I personally feel completely comfortable continuing to run his projectiles. Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure why you're attempting to sugar coat some of the facts here.
I agree that everyone deserves their day in court but after looking into the allegations of child pornography, and producing child pornography, I'm really having a hard time believing that the charges would be fabricated.
Unfortunately this type of accusation turns out to be true 99% of the time.
The second point is that Jason is a business partner in this company, not just a machinist/tester.
The fact that he's back there working for Badlands Precision with these extremely serious and disturbing charges against him is baffling!

I also cant believe there was a quality control issue going on and it was never disclosed.
I developed a really good load with 6.5 125 bd2s this spring and ordered 150 more late summer.
I loaded a bunch of the new lot up before hunting season and noticed accuracy issues last month shooting at 600.
Maybe they'll offer those of us having issues a refund??
I'm several hundred dollars into these bullets already, with zero confidence in the company

I wish George the best but I'm done with this outfit

Not sure where you got that I was saying charges were fabricated or that I was sugar coating, I stated facts of the situation, nothing more. And I agree, especially in federal Court with a very high prosecution rate, I am a LE officer so your not saying anything I don't know, however it is not my motive or intent to try to prove innocence or guilt. I keep that mindframe in my job as well, I simply present the facts of the situation as unbiased as possible. Bottom line is my concern is not with legal issues of the machinist (not a co-owner of the business, but instead an employee, though an important one. Call and talk to the owner yourself if you want, I did.) but instead addressing the concern many, including myself, had as to the future of the business. As far as him being back working, George wants to continue producing good bullets, and Jason is the best one to train his possible replacement. The company is made up of 6 employees according to their business profile, two of which being George and his wife, so options are limited, and George is in a hard spot. That is my understanding after speaking with him. He has refrained from putting out a statement as to Jason since his proceedings are still in court.

And if you contact George, he has been making it right from the people I have talked to. So try emailing, or better yet call them yourself, and George will likely answer any questions you have. He is a very receptive individual.

Well according to this post (which I see you are a part of) Jason clearly identifies himself as a business partner..

I didn't say you stated the charges are fabricated, but you clearly implied that he's innocent until proven guilty which is true when taking away someone's freedom, however as an LEO you should be well aware of what would happen if those charges were leveled against you..
I work in a similar profession and know exactly what would happen: administrative leave until things were resolved in court. I.e. not working for your current employer as a charged sex offender.
I'm just saying it's a very stupid move to continue professionally associating with someone carrying those charges.

Shitty deal for George but he's making his own bed right now by continuing to work with the guy

I have no idea how their business model is operated, but if my wife tried to run our machine shop....she'd end up brokeif not killed. I can understand wanting to train a replacement.

I can also respect the right to a fair trial.

I also support the slowest, most torturest treatment for anyone who messes with kids.

I had not reviewed back in quite a while in that thread, yes he does identify himself as a business partner, as well as being on the patent, I had forgotten that post, and was apparently mistaken. Perhaps I didn't understand while talking to George. Either way, the business is still going to continue, per the CEO George.

And yes, it would be different for me, there is a much higher standard (especially these days) for law enforcement vs someone's private business, that goes without saying. I do not expect everyone to be held to that standard, and I understand George's hard position, obviously you are not so understanding of it. That is perfectly fine, and that is what is so great about our country and having a free market and freedom to choose where and how we spend our money, as well as have to ability to respectfully disagree with each other and still have productive conversation. Thank you for your input sir

Fair enough and I don't entirely disagree with you, but personally I do feel uncomfortable supporting them at this point.
Merry Christmas

Too bad this thread got sidetracked, interested in these bullets and would like to hear more from actual field users.

The CEO of Badlands, Jason Sejnoha, is currently being charged with production and distribution of child pornography. If you do business with them your money will most likely be used to help him fight his legal battle. I would find another company to do business with for your ammunition needs.

It looks like to me after going through the thread on lrh and talking with badlands that at high velocity/close range they will shed pedals similar to a hammer but at lower velocity/long range they provide a good mushroom like a barnes. However expand at much lower velocities than the barnes and obviously much better bc. He told me they are confident down to at least 1600fps but haven't tested below that yet.

The idea that I like so much is that I would have no concerns of putting it through the shoulders of an elk. That can't be said for berger, eldx, etc.
I have a 30-378 weatherby. 28 inch fluted contour#5 Shelin barrel with brake added , 1-10 Twist. 195 gr Dozer 2 vs 205 dozer 2 's any ideas ? Your stuck with the 195's. You need an 8.5 twist to run the 205's.
