Badlands 2200 most versatile pack?

It just occurred to me with my ongoing 15+ year love hate relationship with this pack, but is there really a more versatile low end pack then this? It really does it all. Aside from being a bit heavy, it's hard to beat it's versatility.

If you think about it, Kifaru Fulcrum and Nomad series have the bat wing concept no doubt spawned from BLs. Another option I really like is the entry through pad on the front of the pack. I had my pack with turkey blind, chair, ground cloth all strapped to the outside between the wings laying in my truck. I needed something out of the pack, I just flipped it, unzipped and wala....... Any other pack, unstrapping would have been needed.

From the WT woods to the mountains, I've finally come to terms, it is a great little pack.

Mine was 6-7 years old when I found it on Ebay. Promptly sent it in for repair to upper stay pocket, love the warranty. I carried it for summer training and hunting in CO for 5 years, sold it for what I paid. If you want a stout day pack that can carry an elk quarter sometimes, it will do the job. There are no fit adjustments for torso length, so fit is generic. I'm 5-11, average torso length, it fit me well. I used a packframe for hauling meat after the 1st load rode out on the 2200.

I had the 2800 forever and I loved it. I couldnt believe how quickly somebody bought it when I upgraded. Heavy but very durable. For the money I loved it. Hunting with it was great but packing a first load of elk with it sucked.

I completely destroyed mine and BL gave me a new one no questions asked. It packed tons of elk, 2 bighorn sheep, 2 mountain goats and countless deer. I ended up picking up a Kifaru nomad (no frame yet) and am on the fence about the frame and whether or not I will go that route. Love the batwing style which makes both packs versatile.

I had one that the stays bent in while packing out a head and cape, wrecked my back. Didn't realize it at the time. I could just feel something digging in. Several days I was having some pretty good back issues.

I think they are good for what they are, but a heavy load hauler the are not.IMG_20130905_112610_271.jpg

Edit: this might have been a 2800 pack. I really can't remember now. Had a batwing system and a roll out beaver tail on the bottom. Fairly large, just the frame system wasn't up to heavy loads.

I agree completely. When I use my Badlands 2200 I use it to get the first, smaller, load out. I then would switch to a pack frame. It is very good for what its for. I dont think it is even in the same ballpark as my Kifaru for load hauling.

No question it’s not in Kifaru or the other big name packs, but for guys looking for a good versatile pack, no real need to look further.

I never switched packs out once back to the truck, I’d just continue packing with the 2200. I was in the army for awhile so maybe pack pain is no biggie, used to it.

I recently picked up a badlands super day pack used on here. Been taking it turkey hunting. Really like it . Handy little pack with lots of organizing pockets. For trips to the woods or fishing or taking the kids for a hike, it's a great pack

I ran one for a couple years and quickly found its limit when it was used with heavy loads and extended day hunts over a day or two. The last year I had it I had to pack my deer and only half of my gear out cause the rest wouldn’t fit in the pack I had to let my buddies carry the rest. By the time I got back to the truck I realized how uncomfortable the pack was with a load I was around 80 pounds. Sold it and bought a kifaru haven’t looked back since, the 2200 is a good pack for the money but I found it wasn’t conducive for the type of hunting I was doing.

Can you carry a quartered whitetail in game bags with one of these? Or would that be too heavy of a load?
