We ordered an extra upper strap for the Gun Bearer and with the butt cup behind the hip, you can be set up to have it away from you SG style, or in front of you Kifaru style depending on if you use the upper strap on the pack or the one on the shoulder strap.

FWIW, I'm using my non-Universal Kifaru Gun Bearer from my old Kifaru pack on my SO Fortress. From what I can tell the non-Universal would be preferable for an SO, at least for the bottom/butt end of it - it attached exactly as it would to the Kifaru. I'm not sure what the difference is for the top piece but it also seems to work fine.

When I don't need to have it handy, I stick it down into the side sleeve of my exo 3500 with the scope towards my body. Carries nice, well protected and you don't have to dick with it while taking the pack off and on.

I have a Universal Gun Bearer and it worked awesome with my Tenzing 2200 a couple years ago. When my hunting buddy and our pack in guide saw it in use, they just had to have one too. I've now upgraded my pack to an EXO 5500 and I think I'll put the rifle in the long side sleeve on pack in, then use the Gun Bearer during the hunt. Best of both worlds, IMO....

I wish Kifaru would combine the rifle scabbard of the mountain rambler with a pack like the muskeg 2800 or apollo. It would need the hypalong sleeve mount unlike the mount on the mountain rambler though. That would make a great rifle carry setup.

Used the universal Kifaru gun bearer on a eberlestick dragonfly last year. Works decent. It takes a little bit of adjustment to get it optimal but it was a good purchase imo

Vurtle, in trying to determine if I can do just that but with an eberlestock scabbard. I think it can be done but I'm in the figuring out stage. I don't think Kifaru will do your idea because of the Eberle patent.

I’ve mounted an eberlestock scabbard to a Kifaru frame using a Nomad bag. I use this set up for day hunts and up to weekend excursions.

For longer hunts I use a home made

system on my DT-1 bag. I reach back and unbuckle the strap around the stock and slide my rifle into my hands without removing my pack. I do have to remove my pack to put it back though.
