something with the safariland or G-Code modular mounting is best. That way you have it on your pack belt and can move it to your belt when your pack is off. The gun on your pack only works if you have your pack on, especially when in brown / griz country.

What's worked well for me is I have a bianchi (ascent I believe) and just purchased the bladetech mounting system and it sits locked and secured on my hip belt. I can change molle or belt thickness for attachments anywhere, even a knife on a shoulder strap. I think each bladetech mount was like 10$. Never had any issue with slippage or coming loose. I prefer the look of the brown leather. Pic is not the best but you get the picture.
