Hey guys so I'm in the market for a new hunting pack to carry a 1-3 days worth of hunting gear but I also want the pack to be small enough to use as a daypack. I was looking at the exo k2 3500, the kuiu 3200 or the Blacks Creek Grip frame with 3200 cubic inch pack. I would love a kifar u but that's just not in the budget. Please point me in the right direction of a good day\ multi day pack that is a good meat hauler. Any reviews on above packs would be awesome as well. thanks

Check out the backpack section of the forum. A lot of good reviews plus some brands you may be over looking ie. Mystery Ranch and Stone Glacier. I have no experience with the Black Creeks but have owned the Exo and Kuiu. Both are quality packs. Also, check out the classifieds. Some good quality packs, including Kifaru, can be had for reasonable amounts......

I'm tired of hearing this recited line. A Kifaru hunting or tactical frame with aluminum stays costs $335. A woodsmen pack cost $220. That comes in at $555 plus shipping. The cheapest you can buy an EXO 3500 is $574 plus shipping. I'm no math major but the Kifaru is CHEAPER isn't it?

A KUIU icon pro 3200 full kit is $480. It is the cheapest. Chose wisely but, don't buy the Exo thinking you are getting it cheaper then a Kifaru.

Where about sin Northern California are you? I have a Kuiu I’m probably going to get rid of if you’re interested. If you’re in the Redding area we could meet up and you could try the pack out.

Ive had a few packs over the years. And Ive found the bigger they are, the more shit you put in them.

Ive finally settled on a Kuiu Icon Pro 1850.
As my daypack, it weighs 17lbs with everything I need for a long day of elk hunting.
Ive also loaded it up for a 3 day stint and had room to spare

Last fall I packed an entire WT doe quartered up with it and it was a dream to use.

Don't 0ver look the Kuiu. If you are a smaller waist size, you will love it. They are a great pack system too. You will hear otherwise about that too. But, just like the price thing concerning Kifaru, what you hear is rarely the facts. Blacks Creek makes a good pack. It however suffers on the belt design unless you have a small waist as well. One thing to note is, you'd be happy with them all.

Hey guys so I decided on the mystery ranch Metcalf because I can use it for a multi day back country hunt and I can also use it for a daypack. It's also supposed to be a great meat hauler.

Good on you. There are so many good choices, hard to go wrong.

I did the MR Selway for the same purpose: day pack-able but a few nights also. I rigged up an old Dana Design hip sack for a lid for longer outings. Only reason I did MR was it's local. Stone Glacier is only three stone throws away from MR, but I just liked the Selway.

How much can you haul with the kuiu

An Icon Pro system will handle more than you will likely be able to safely haul in the mountains. I have hauled an entire 3.5 year old mulie buck (bone in) + my gear, 13 lbs rifle, and head with mine with no pack issues, my knees & quads were another story. Didn't weigh the pack, but damn heavy. I've hauled 80+ lbs on other occasions. I train most of the summer with 70+ lbs and pack does well. I have had my Icon Pro 5200 since they were released, so about 4-5 years.

I'm happy with my Stone Glacier Sky 5100 pack. It collapses down tight and small when you're using it as a day pack, but has the room to haul in the gear for a longer trip. It is simple in design, but I don't find it to be a hinderance when it comes to convenience features. The center zip isn't accessible if you've got your bow strapped to the frame, but that is where some of their other pack designs come into play.

I'm 6'1 155lb, and have the medium belt. The pack doesn't hang way outside my hips and shoulders, which I find important.
