Plan to use my g19 and g20 for protection while in the woods hunting, camping, kayaking and backpacking.
Do you prefer a rmr or a weapon mounted light or both?
I have never used a red dot on a pistol.
I have a new Tlr7a but trying to decide on using it alone or with a trijicon rmr as i need a few new holsters.

A stock G20 is what I would carry maybe add Trigicon HD night sights and that's about it

Skip the rmr, a light can be handy when camping or packing out meat in the dark. Keep in mind that most defensive shooting is up close and personal so the shooting is instinctive, a rmr is just a distraction.

I have been carrying my G17 with a SF x300 in the woods for a few years now. Recently switched from Hornady critical defense rounds to Buffalo Bore hardcast +P rounds. I have the Trijicon night sites as well, but none of it really matters if you train with it in the capacity you intend to use it.

TLR7 on a P365 with factory night sights, loaded with Buffalo Bore 147 gr hard cast +P ammo, only difference to my daily carry is the ammo type.

I have used a P320 with a red dot on it for the same purposes before, there wasn't a really problem with it other than size and weight. Keeping the lens of the optic clean can be problematic at times, it liked to catch pine needles and twigs if I was really busting brush. I doubt it would've interfered with the draw/aiming sequence though, and would've self-cleaned after the first round was fired.
