Back up bow

No backups, but I have 4 bows ready to go right now. My backup is whatever one I leave in the truck when I go out to hunt with the other one. Always bring 2 bows with me hunting.

I sold both my bow recently and picked up in Axius. Without a backup bow a got nervous and ordered a complete set of strings and cables in case shit happens. Ill bring them with me on my hunt and if needed I'll have a back up string.

Bought a Traverse last fall. Love the bow. I put Mathews Halon 6 on backup duty.

I posted a thread here a couple years ago where I'd just sold my only backup and hadn't replaced it yet, and was a month before the Elk Season. Promptly had a limb delaminate on a pretty-new Hoyt , sending pieces everywhere, where it had to go back to them to be repaired. Had to walk into a pro-shop and buy a new bow retail the next day.

I have one backup set-up and ready to go at all times now. Right now I have one completely ready to go, and one that could be set up relatively quickly if need be.

I'm currently running 2 bows.

A Mathews VXR 31.5 for my primary, and a Bowtech Realm SR6 for my backup - however I shoot both every week since theres minute differences between the two.

Like someone else mentioned - nearly everyone has more than one gun, why shouldn't we at least have a backup bow?

I thought having a back up bow would be a good idea. After having one for a short time, I quickly learned that it was a waste of money, space, and time for me to keep two bows. I now sell all my old bows and couldn’t be happier with the decision.

I can see where you’re coming from - and honestly, if I was just “meh” about hunting(meaning if I missed a season I wouldn’t be upset) then yeah having a backup is a waste.

But I’ve seen first hand what can happen, and how long it can take to get it fixed... add in the fact that most of the hunting I do isn’t right out my back door and I’ve got a wasted weekend, if not season on my hands if something bad happens.

I’ve been bowhunting since’92 and have never missed a season yet. That experience, a long season, and plenty of time off all factor into it for me I’m sure.

All I know is, the new Helix arrived yesterday and id all set up and shooting bullet holes. I have a little fine tuning and I want to try a slightly larger peep but I am feeling a whole lot better. I got the Pro Defiant back together but am going to order a new string before it goes back in the rotation, Then I will have three bows that will all be capable of hunting. The main reason I started thinking about a back up bow in the first place was during withdrawals while my bow was in the shop for a new string and tune up. IN MAY! Not even the busy season. I don't have enough seasons left to miss a day. Maybe if all I hunted were deer. But not to be able to hunt elk during the rut? Not a freakin chance.
