Finally got my b&t TiGer to the range to use on my .223 Howa Mini. To my ear, it sounded better than my 7.62 Ab a-10...kids commented on it too. That's both exciting (as the b&t weights almost nothing) and disappointing as it means I have very little reason to carry the ab on the 223.

I haven't seen one in action, but that is hard to believe. There are design advancements but no 'replacement for displacement' as they say. Even if close, it would have to be great can.

Do you doubt that he actual has both cans to compare, or do you doubt his assessment of which of two cans he owns is quieter on a specific host.

"No replacement for displacement" was never true for cans, design and design tradeoffs make a big difference for individual performance attributes, and with new designs available using 3d printing now, it's even less true than it ever was, comparing old designs with some of the new ones. Even before recent advancements, performance on bolt guns could be improved with very high backpressure designs, which the Tiger is when on .223 (although it's actually fairly low backpressure on .22lr).

You could make a kind of soft argument that volume reigns supreme within similar designs, but even that is overly simplistic; comparing cans that aren't even close design wise, it's just not a useful generalization.

One of the nice things about the Tiger is that it's really cheap for a can that can be competently used on a .223 bolt. If you doubt user reports, it's only $400 to pick one up and give it a try. I like mine enough that I might pick up another just to spread around.

Yeah, It was hard to believe. I'm wondering if the B&T, though less volume, has sufficient volume to disperse the .223 gas; basically, it's big enough to do its job. I've been rolling over what my firing sequence was on different loads to make sure I was comparing apples to apples. I and my boys were shooting a variety of loads with the AB (XM193 and several different AAC offerings). I swapped to the B&T, first with a 77gr AAC BTHP and immediately was surprised by the low report...having expected it to be louder. Enough so I pulled the muffs off for a couple shots from curiosity (I know, not a great idea). I shot 5 of those, then another 3 or 5 XM193s. I then swapped back to the AB with XM193s - When I noticed it and my boy commented on it being louder.

None of this is saying the AB is 'bad' - It sounds great on my AR, and sounded great on my 7.62x39 RAR that I just sold. It'll still get higher volume range time on the .223 but will probably find a more permanent home on one of my 6.5 Creedmoors. I imagine a .22 end cap might help, but I doubt it's all the difference I noticed.

No offense taken! I do know the internal volume on these is substantially more than the 1" 22lr cans as these are more like 1.2". And this is entirely a 'to my ear' observation, so it's as subjective as that. Could be as simple as having a nice lower tone.

Tiger vs AB A10 30cal differences (just a few basic)

Printed titanium vs machined and welded steel
Specialized baffles vs standard baffles
Monolithic design vs multiple part design
22 caliber vs 308 caliber

These are just a few points that make the Tiger potential better than the A10 30cal suppressor. The 223 may be the top end of the list for the Tiger but the 223 is also the bottom end for the A10 30cal suppressor. Different materials and manufacturing designs will cause difference in sound and suppression. I've signed up for every place I can to get a 2nd Tiger due to how impressive it was with my 17 WSM. I can't wait to try it on my 223.

I think you are thinking of a different suppressor. Look up an AB A-10 Warthog suppressor and you will find it is a different suppressor than an AB Raptor 10 Stack.

They are very good on .22 pistols, a couple buddies and I had a round robin with a B&T Tiger, OCL Ti, Rugged Oculus and SiCo Sparrow, switching shooters and hosts between a Tx-22, Sig P322 and 22/45 lite. We settled on the Tiger being a little quieter than the TI and Oculus, no matter the pistol, and the quietest pistol for suppressed use being the 22/45 (although I mostly shoot the Sig these days).

It looks like Battlehawk has some Tigers in a limited distribution black color scheme in stock currently. They are $450, but ship for free if you have a place that will do reasonable transfers.

I have an A-10 in .22 and .30 cal, as well as the Raptor 10 in .30 cal. And when compared against the B&T Tiger for weight, cost, and performance, among the 4, I would never carry anything but the B&T Tiger for a hunting rifle in .223. Sound suppression--to my ear--is close enough that it doesn't practically matter.

It's a real shame B&T USA screwed up their business. Hopefully whenever B&T Switzerland sorts everything out there are affordable B&T Tigers for us on the other side. I immediately moved to purchase another after testing the first, but was too late.

Edit to add: I haven't compared my B&T to my Airlock Nano yet, but from what others have said, they're about comparable (but for the price).

As much as I want you to try it so I can see if it will work, I'm just gonna say no. The 22 ARC has more powder volume and a higher pressure rating than the 223. It might be possible but I'd hate to destroy a great can by pushing it too far. A 5 inch 4 oz can would be chefs kiss for a 20 or 22 inch 22 ARC bolt gun. It would be nice if they started building something similar that was rated for the 22 ARC.

I’m going to try our gnat and midge through a 18in 22 arc tomorrow if I can and a 22 creed soon. We do NOT rate them for that, only 223 16in bolt action since that’s absolutely not a problem and has been tested but I’d like to see what the limit is lol
