Aziak Ridgeline Tripod, Shooting Review.

now that you have more time with the ridgeline are you still satisfied with it?

Did you have any opportunities to hunt with it this season?

Yeah I used it on my sheep hunt. Was perfect for a lightweight tripod. I left it with @Formidilosus to use for the rest of the season so he could try it out as well.
Amazing

Would you hesitate to use it as your only/primary tripod for hunting elk/mule deer in the lower 48?

I ordered ridgeline but looking for guidance based on experience to decide on whether to change it while aziak has their 20% Black Friday discount going on.

Most hunts in the Lower 48 from my perspective are considerably less intensive than solo mountain hunts up here, so take what I say with a grain of salt. If you are happy with sitting or kneeling to glass, then its great, or if you are trying to drop as much weight as possible. I think I'd gravitate more to my RRS Ascend-14 if I was not covering the amount of miles and vert that I normally do, especially if I had a partner to split weight with.
This is a specialized tripod and a great addition to a quiver of optic and rifle supports.

I've pondered this exact combo for a while and I'm wondering how the height difference works out when switching from binos to rifle quickly for a shot.

If you are seated glassing and you've got the binos set to your normal glassing height with the Tricer LP, once you remove the LP and bino combo is the Ridgeline arca plate at a good height to clip in your rifle and shoot? or are you still needing to adjust the legs to get a good shooting position?

Currently I'm running a Sirui Tripod with a ball head and no center post. I've struggled to quickly switch between binos and shooting in the seated position because the total height of the setup glassing ends up being too tall to shoot from. Lately I've been choosing glassing spots that are on a slight hill so when I switch between the binos and rifle can just push the tripod away from me and down the hill a little bit from where I'm seated and it drops the whole assembly low enough I can comfortably clip in and shoot.

Sure would be nice however if I could just remove the binos and pan head altogether and have the ball head at the right height without too much fussing around.

Thanks!

@lefthandedasian I have not found this to be an issue. Ime If it requires adjusting its typically a very minor adjustment that can be done with one hand on only one leg in a second or two. Maybe a factor of my height, etc but worth a try to see if it’ll work for you.

I just got a Ridgeline lightly used, and it’s surprisingly sturdy for the weight.
I plan on using it for everything for now.
Solid enough for 500 yard shots upright.

It’s splendid squatted down for prone shots.

Have any of you tried the Ridgeline with the Tricer 360 micropan? Seems like you could make macroadjustments with the ball head, and the micopan to do your careful glassing.

I’m done supporting a hunting brand that obviously rips off others. I’d rather just use an unapologetic Chinese product over that.
Here’s what I just got to try out.

Let me know how you like it! That’s about 20% of what tricer is charging for similar

Seems like it could be the best of both worlds.

On a side note, I’m newer to the space. What’s the story behind the Tricer hate?

Arrogant, grandiose claims as well as direct ripoffs of Really Right Stuff products.

For those curious, the $19.99 panning base off of Amazon is pretty sweet. It weighs 3.8 oz and is silky smooth.
Here is is on top of the MA-30L head and a RRS Ascend tripod.

I left my Ridgeline down with Form, but when I get another one I’ll definitely try it out with it. I think this could be a sweet way to allow smooth glassing, while keeping a lower profile than a pan tilt head atop an integrated ballhead.

Ben, what’s it weigh? The weight is a major selling point on the ridgeline, so curious. Im currently using only the built in ball head, have been having the internal debate about getting a ul panning head like a nighthawk, just havent made it a priority. Something like this could be perfect though.
