AZ shooting meet up with LS Wild March 20-22, 2026

Don’t worry we’ll take care of you. The dry heat thing is real and we’ll have shade and wet towels, makes all the difference. I work outside and like to wear a lightweight sun hoody and then a cotton longsleeve over that. Cotton T absorbs lots of water and it’s like wearing a personal swamp cooler as long as the humidity is low. Plus two shirts creates a boundary layer from the sun. Outer shirt takes the UV but the inner shirt against your skin stays much cooler.

Yup, I wear long sleeve UV sun hoodies. And, I stay in the shade. Wearing a second shirt actually feels cooler because of the sweat and it stops the prickly heat of the sun. Glassing in the sun, I wear my big brim hat and throw a light wrap over me too. Seems weird, but there is a reason desert people are covered up.

You’ll definitely thaw and then start to bake, lol. I will have water to drink and water to wipe off the heat. You will sweat more than you realize. Hydration is number one and cooling towels number two. With shade and a breeze, the heat is manageable.

You’ll get a good lesson or two on mirage as well.

Big thanks to @hereinaz for organizing such a great opportunity to get better at shooting in such a quality atmosphere. Put in a lot of effort to help others improve and I know I speak for all attendees in stating our appreciation!
all who attended great to meet each of you and extra special props to @mad_angler for flying all the way out from Wisco to put put in sweat and effort and $ down in the desert to get better at shooting.

I'll be waiting for the grip n grins gents

Thanks a ton hereinaz, it was a really cool event. I’m sorry I couldn’t stay longer but it was fun watching a learning.

Here’s 1002 yards on Saturday:

It was indeed a great time...
It was quite warm but not bad under all the shade provided.

I'm trying to remember names...
- First, thanks to @hereinaz for putting it all together
- Then, thanks to @JoeK , @AZDC , and @glock233 for trying to answer all my rookie questions. I learned so much

I'll work hard this summer getting ready and then I'll work hard in October. I try to repay you with a grip and grin...

I only took a couple of photos. Here’s hereinaz’s sweet motorcycle grip ball head. I’ll let him speak to the actual tripods, but dang this ballhead was sweet.
And a big learning takeaway for me was that wind from 1:30 (45*) is still 75% value and NOT 50%, that should help me suck a whole lot less...
