AZ Mearns Quail

Taking my son to NM on his Javelina hunt the first week of February and we are brining the dog this year to hunt quail. We ran into a bunch of scaled quail last year so we plan to hunt them in that spot and mearns on the way back. We’ve never hunted them before and I was wondering if anyone familiar with them is willing to chat with me about my plans.

Very down year for them in AZ.

Weather hammered them. Everyone who likes to hunt them says numbers are way low.

Lot's of Quail in NM, I shoot mostly Gambel's

Yep low monsoon year and no fall or winter rain yet.

A friend and I had planned on going last week, all the local reports we got were poor. We ended up in Kansas…. Hoping next year we make it out there.

We saw a lot off range oryx hunting in November. Shot several while driving around looking for oryx.

I haven't been Mearns hunting yet, but the Gambel's have been absolutely awesome to hunt in Az.
Went out Dec 21 got my limit in just around 2 hrs and then went out Jan 1 and got my limit in just over 3 hrs.

That’s awesome, we have some time so we would like to hunt Mearns scaled and gambels if possible.
