Morning everyone, looking at my points this morning and GOHUNT. I’ve got 19 points in AZ for elk. Probably going to go outfitted since it’s taken this long to accumulate this many points. Archery is my first choice looking at 27 & 1 but am open to other thoughts. Who’s the go to outfitters for those areas? I use my mules here in Wyoming to access the backcountry
Thanks Bryan

I can't speak to those 2 units specifically, but I had a great experience with Shadow Valley Outfitters this past season. Like most other outfits in the state, they run guides across the state in all the premium units. It would be worth a phone call to them to find out which of those units is better for archery. I believe a lot of elk from unit 1 go into 27 to rut. I could have that backwards, but I do know that one of those 2 units is better during archery, and the other is better late season.

If I ever draw that tag I'll be hunting with Sonny Tapia from Dream Mountain Outfitters. I have a friend that has hunted with him multiple times. Sonny donates a couple hunts a year to Wounded Warriors and posts the results of the hunts. I met him one summer while hiking in Unit 1. He was scouting and had stopped to help an injured hiker way up on Mt Baldy. He was on his way up but offered to put her on his horse and lead her back down the mountain. She was scared of horses so we used my med kit to splint her leg and her friends got her back to her car. He lives in the area and has spent his life hunting and guiding in the 2 units you mentioned and is a heck of nice guy.

Drop Tyne Outfitters would be a good choice. I live in WY also and have 25 points for AZ. I want area 9 or 10 though. I’m doing zero hunt fees with Steve Chappell when I draw. Probably going to apply next year.
