From my understanding, both have comparable waterproof paneling in the knees, butt, and lower legs.

Talus has knee pads, while Axis does not.

Axis is apparently just a little warmer?

Anyone else that can provide some additional intel to help differentiate the features between the two, and what that translates to in a hunting setting?

How’s warmth, wind-protection, waterproof performance?

I wear the guides and am looking at getting a pair of Axis. The Axis for the waterproofing, but I will say this I have worn the guides in cold snowy conditions and have had no problems with the wind or getting wet. Without personal knowledge , I have read that the knee pads very seldom are in the right place for some people. Either they are to high or they have to pull the legs up to get their knees into the cup. Like I said I have never tried them personally because I do't spend enough time crawling around on my knees to want a pair.

Axis is fleece backed throughout and warm like the guides but more windproof imo due to the waterproof panels. Perfect for cold snowy/wet winter days. The pockets are larger like the guides to accommodate gloves and beanies.

The talus fit like the attacks, fleece backing only in the waterproof areas. Less warm and smaller pockets like the attacks. They fall between the attack and guides in terms of warmth. Perfect for late fall and spring. The perfect turkey hunting pants when the mornings are brisk and you’re having to sit or kneel a lot in damp grass. The waterproof lower legs are suppossed to eliminate the need for gaiters but the fabric is slightly noisier if they rub.

The differences are that the axis is more updated, seam taped and a higher waterproof rating in the knees and seat. More fleece but also more breathable. The axis is more wind proof with the membrane in the fleece backer.

The Talus has less stretch and movement to it. Less breathable due to the waterproof built in gaiters on the lower legs and is a noisier pant.

Axis pants get pretty warm above 35 degrees even without long johns. I did notice they are rather windproof compared to other soft shell pants I've tried. No experience with talus pants but if your on the move above 35-40 degrees I think the axis would be pretty hot.
