Howdy,
Have any of you hunted Axis deer on Molokai with a bow? I'll be heading in March and wanted to see what info and advice Roksliders might have for the winter vacation hunt. What distances were shots? What clothing was exceptionally useful, what boots or shoes? Coming from Alaska, this will be a very different hunting experience for me. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Ive not hunted them on Molokai but have on Maui. They're pretty dang wary. My closest kill shot was 25 yards. Longest was 50 yards. I just wore my First Lite clothing and some light weight hiking boots. Shorts wouldn't be bad choice either.

My advice is to move slow. They have great eyesight and a good nose. They pretty fast so aim for the bottom 1/3rd of the vitals. They also don't bleed much even with perfect arrow placement.

You'll have a ton of fun. They're a blast to hunt.

After I took Vancouver bull and a couple poly hogs on the big island, Axis is the next Hawaii target species. The axis were not hard antlered when I was there hunting bulls.
