I've had the Avenza Maps app on my phone for several years and really like it and use it a lot for the topo maps. Just the other day I got on (hadn't been on for a couple months), and it's totally changed. I guess I must have updated it at some point in the last couple months, but now the topo's no longer are labeled like traditional topo's, ie., Kodiak C-4 is now labeled (57153e1) Page 028 Kodiak-West. Also, now they want $0.99 to download each individual map. Has anyone else noticed this change? Also, does anyone have another recommendation for a free topo maps app? I really like the features of the Avenza Maps app, but now that they want a dollar to download each one, I think I'll just shit can the app.

I have used it for the last couple years as well for work and hunting. I noticed the same thing the other day. Not a good update for those who liked not paying for it.

Ive used it for both work and hunting. I've always just used the motor vehicle use maps for certain forest to see where roads are and to identify roadless areas. I've noticed its pretty damn accurate to use as far as public/private boundaries as well.

I use Gaia GPS/Topo Maps combo. Best for all maps. You take a hit on the initial purchase, but no more fees for me in US (w/ Alaska as primary).

Gaia Topo Bundle

$19.99 (for Gaia and same for Gaia and Topo Maps Combo)

I use Avenza on my work phone but I use Backcountry Navigator on my personal phone and prefer it. I haven't noticed any changes on Avenza lately, though.

I use Avenza everyday and the quad maps are still free for me. Just have to search a bit harder for it now.
