Hi Everyone, I just received my grad school schedule for the next three years. Lucky enough, a few years out I get a couple weeks off during the end of August & early September (til the 8th). I went Antelope hunting in Wyoming a few years back, and I am more than open to an antelope hunting during this break. That being said, I'm just curious if anyone has any other suggestions. I have considered a mule deer/cow elk hunt, but I'm not sure if 4 or 5 days worth of a mule deer/cow elk hunt would be enough. Given pre-season scouting might be really nice to have. Any thoughts are welcome!

Are you open to hunting other states? Look at Utah’s general archery deer season. Be tough to get it done in 4-5 days if you haven’t scouted at all or ever been there but it’d be worth looking into. Some fun hunts

Hey Mike, I appreciate the reply! I'm open to hunting pretty much anywhere. I will take a look into Utah's general archery deer season. Something like that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much!

August is for archery pronghorn and mule deer. Most states that have pronghorn have an Aug opener for archery. There is also some bear hunting to be done if you search around.

New Mexico has quite a few August bear hunts… Nevada and Utah have August deer. And just about everywhere that has pronghorn has archery hunts opening in August. If I only had 4-5 days total with no scouting or previous/local knowledge of the area that’s what I’d focus on personally. Can have a whole lot of fun chasing pronghorn with a bow for 4 days. Might not even find deer by the 4th day in a new unit you’ve never stepped foot in. And you’ve got a lot better chance finding deer than bears in that situation I’d think

If I had to maximize adventure in August I'd have 2 bear tags in my pocket in the People's Republic of WA state. The high country of the Cascades is the best in the country and it's infested with fuzzies.

Now that’s the play! I’ve never hunted Washington so I didn’t even think about their bear season being a general tag. 4-5 days with a rifle is a whole different ball game than trying to bowhunt them. That would be a blast

It's as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.

I've hunted all over the West and WA bears will forever be one of my favorite and most action packed hunts. The state is truly infested with bears.

The first week of Sept can be great chasing bugling bulls and you can sit water mid day. There are some states that still have OTC elk and deer tags in the same unit. IMO Sept is for elk, I’m hunting them everyday of the month and have killed them from the beginning to the end of Sept.

You can apply for NV archery deer that opens the 10th of August too.
