I'm sorry to hear this, OP. My father hunted with Hunter back in 2006 and had an exceptional hunt with Hunter. He got a huge Aoudad on day one, got a javelina, several wild hogs, and a bobcat. Hunter joked that he needed to get my dad out of there before he killed everything on the ranch.

Things change and I'm sorry that this happened to what was considered an "excellent trip." I even went so far as to email Hunter and thank Hunter for showing my dad such a great time.

Hunt Texas alot, things are changing for sure. Prices are out of this world anymore, I can remember hunting Aoudad , 4 horn, Moreno and more for under $500 bucks. 3 day hunts amazing. It seems to be trial and error anymore.

I would bet the reason Hunter couldn't give you directions was because he didn't have a place sorted out for you to hunt. I appreciate you sharing your story, and congrats on a beautiful bull in Alberta!

sorry for your experience. I hunted with Hunter Ross a few times. He used to have great properties for both Aoudad and free range Axis. most of his good guides have left him. Too bad...for some years there he was a go-to option with high quality...

Seems like a similar story with lots of the guides in west Texas. They are good for awhile, then slip off, start shooting smaller rams, overhunt their ranches etc.

Sorry this happened to you. This communication issue sounds like something from the late 80’s when we only had land lines and snail mail. The only excuse for this is complete incompetence from this guy. Spread the word.

I have a sheep hunt planned with Mike In about a month, I’ll let you know how it goes. I did a hog hunt with him a few years ago and it was exactly as he said it would be.

I have a different guide I tried to do a sheep hunt with last year in Texas and 1 week before the hunt he tried to change the price on me by a lot. I did get my money back but still stinks I had a hunt planned all year and it got cancelled.

My advice is once you have a good guide stick with him. IT is hard to find an honest and decent guide.

We guided aoudad, deer, vermin hunts for 16 years. Let's just say I've never been a fan of Ross for a variety of reasons.
