Im going on my first elk hunt this fall and want to get some good gear. I want the kuiu attack pants but just can't justify spending 140 on a pair of paints. How do the Prana pants stack up against the kuiu pants?

The one thing that keeps me from using the Zion is the one thigh pocket. I use the EB guide for that reason. I sold all my KUIU pants and use the EB Guides now. If you were going later though you may want something a bit thicker than the Attack, Zion or EB. Other option is just making sure you can layer under the thinner pants.

its late season rifle hunt in Arizona. Starts November 30

Feature wise it’s no contest, attacks for sure. Price wise it’s the Zion’s. I feel ya about the price, if you go with the attacks or something similar in price get them in a solid color. I wear my brown tiburons all the time except in the winter then it’s the wrangler stretch nylon.

If you’re ok with camo skre makes a very good pant that’s a little more affordable than the attack. I actually like the hardscrabble pant better than the attack except the hardscrabble isn’t available in a solid color.

The wranglers are a crazy good value too. I use a black pair at work and beat the crap out of them.

I wore the attack pants on my late elk hunt in AZ last year. If I were going back this year I would wear the EB pants and take the zip off merino bottoms for the morning if I needed them.

I have both. My Attacks are older Canadian-sewn, pre-hip-zip and fit me pretty well and they're been through the wringer, I've tried to order replacements but have not been impressed and ended up returning them. I don't care for the horizontal leg seams either. I have worn the Zions since 2015 and to me, they are the best warm to cool weather option available. They breathe incredibly well for synthetics and with a pair of merino long johns they have keep me plenty warm down to the low 20s (I don't have any experience at lower temps).

I don't have a lot of need for cargo pockets on pants and I get by nicely with just the single on the Zions. I still wear the Attacks on occasion but they're a size too big and while nice, don't do anything better than the Zion.

Any difference in water shed between the two? My hunt today went from wet brush from due to sudden down pour while wearing some FL obsidians which was a mistake on my end to start with but yea, any water resistance difference between the two?
I own some Zions but haven't hunted them yet.

Attack has a better initial DWR. I retreat both the attack and prana with grangers wash in. For price really hard to beat zion

I love the side vents on the attack but love the built in belt of the zion that doesn’t eat your hips up with pack on more

I love the Zions. I don't keep much in my pant pocket so care less about hip pockets. Found Prana a few years ago form recommendations on this boat and can not be happier. That being said prefer my Sitka pants over the Kuiu I had and sold.

I like the lined pants but they would be too warm for all day based on my hunt last year in AZ. They would be good for a morning ATV ride and glassing but you would not want to hike far in them if you were climbing hills.

I have the attacks (both new and old versions), EB guide pants and Kuhl renegades (regular not the "jeans" which are thinner). I prefer the attacks with the Kuhls a very close second. The EB remind me of skinny jeans too much and are the thinnest of the 3. They are pretty much my travel and kick around pants now. The lined ones are nice for winter.

I've had my Sitka 90% pants and jacket for 10 years. They been thru Alaska 3x,Africa once, and about 10 trips west archery elk hunting, and 6 years of crawling on hands and knees thru swamps bear hunting here. Not to mention all the upland bird hunts in some nasty brush.I don't have a single thing wrong with them except blood stains.I would HIGHLY recommend any Sitka product. What I've put that outfit thru amazes me and it's been the best money I've spent on hunting accessories.Buy yourself some Sitka gear!!!!

I'll attack this one 2 weeks too late, but hunting season just ended so now I have time. I have had the attack pants for years and the prana zion convertible pants for a couple years. I have used both for hunting and scouting well into winter. I wouldn't get the zions unless they were convertibles.

IMO the vertical ventilation zipper on the attack pants is just a silly feature compared to the ventilation offered by convertibles. It's been a hot damn year in CO and even at the end of September I have gone to shorts mode during the hunt multiple times at 9-13K elevation. I take double sided Velcro and wrap it around the lower part of the pants just below my knee, so the lower part of the pants is more like a gaiter and I never remove it from my leg. Great ventilation and I still have lower leg protection. The vertical zipper on the attack pants were a cool idea to a problem that was already solved by convertible pants.

If you are bow hunting, I think the attack pants are quieter moving through the brush.

Durability, I have gotten equal service out of both for years.

DWR, don't know and don't care. I want a breathable warm weather pant and anything that hinders that is mission defeating the purpose of warm weather pants. If it isn't raining hard enough for rain pants then it is just a temporary cooler. The bigger priority is which pants dry quicker come sunset and cooler temperatures. The Prana convertibles is a lighter material that dries quicker.

Pockets, both my attack and zion covertibles have hip pockets on both legs. The zion's have two zippers per hip pocket, top and front so that's pretty convenient. The zippers on the back pockets of the attacks keep them from filling with debris if you spend some time on your butt glassing. The zion's have no closures on their back pockets. The front pockets on the attacks are at a weird angle that is kind of awkward.

Personal convenience, well I've already talked about the convenience of pants going to shorts. Now I'm going to talk about Piss. Who the hell decided to put these short fly zippers on pants obviously don't have men's plumbing. The Prana Zion fly zipper measures a mere 4 inches. My jeans are 6 inch zippers. So what this means for me is when I hang my willy out to piss, I have to lower the pants so there isn't pressure on my urethra. A PITA when you have a pack on with a hip belt and then you need to loosen your pant's belt just to piss. A common occurrence for me after some coffee. The attack pants fly is only slightly better at 5 inches. Not sure about the attack pants fly having two zipper heads. I'm sure somebody out there unzips there pants from the bottom rather than the top, but I'm just old fashion.

Sizing, me being unAmerican, I am taller than I am wide. A definite inconvenience finding clothing is you are tall and lean. So the attack pants were short in the leg for me. The zion offers 32x34 so that was an okay fit.

Camo, well it is cool and it seems to be more useful hiding from other hunters then elk. I have had very close encounters this year with elk while wearing grey solid colored zions, maybe not the 12 yard encounter I had with the attacks but still close. However, this was the first year I decided not to do any calling so it's not really a fair comparison since the elk were not seeking me out.

YMMV.

Both are great options IMO. I own both. I wore zions the first three days this year. Still look just as good as always and we beat some serious brush. The attacks are tried and true. Love the "pit zips" in them and super durable. Both are very stretchy and dry quickly.

I have used both and currently using the Zions but I think that attacks are more technical and have a bigger temperature range. One thing to note is attacks are polyester material whereas zions are nylon. Nylon is more durable, but polyester is quieter and drys a bit faster.

I am not a kuiu fan, in fact I no longer own any of it nor plan to in the future. I did own attack pants and they were great pants.
Pocket layout was fine, they were durable and warm for the weight. Cut right, moved with you. Breathed fairly well. Only negtive on them was lack of inseam options

I have three pairs of Zions. I have used them in a limited fashion hunting. I say that because I don't feel they that great of a hunted pants. The pocket lay out sucks. The front pockets arent deep enough to even be functional. The side pocket is boarder line useless how small it is.
They are comfortable, true to size and come in different lengths. I have used them down into the 40s with a base and they are not very warm at all. Lastly the material isnt very durable, it develops pulls very easy. While it may not hurt how they function I dont feel the material is cut out for hard use, ans quite frankly dont like looking a pulls. As a daily wear pants they are fine, as hunting pant I think there are better options.

Love my zions. You should also check out the corrugate guides from First Lite. I intermix the two, but the zions are a little lighter feeling and probably breathe better.
