At what point do you sell / throwout

Been taking a bath on shipping recently also, I do feel better knowing I have less clutter and that someone else gets to use and hopefully kill with it.

I also use the shipping store (ups) closest to the grocery store I frequent. It makes things easier.

Man, I'm wrastling hard with that right now.

I do have numerous shooting related items that are worth a little coin which I'll sell.

There's other items that need to be donated or trashed and that's coming soon.

If I upgrade, I’m selling. Makes me feel better when I’m spending take a bath on shipping and cost but if I can offset a new purchase a few hundred bucks it’s worth it. If not I give it away if I’m not netting more than $150

I hate throwing stuff away. I had to buy several pairs of 38 wide pants after gaining 30 lbs right after getting out of the army. Took me about a year to lose the weight. I kept those 38 wide pants just in case I gained weight again. After ten years, my wife took them to Goodwill without telling me.

Sometimes the old stuff is made much better than the newer stuff.
Why get rid of it?

Plus I got kids and grandkids growing up that can have it.

If I ever have a real clean out, ill probably sell some just due to the massive amount of hunting stuff I've hoarded

Hard to sell cause i was with my grandpa when he bought it new. However, I often have great reasons for not getting rid of something.

Set up your shipment on ups.com and print off the label your self then drop it off at the UPSStore. The shipping stores will charge you twice as much as it would cost if you do it yourself online.

If I go 2 seasons without using it, it’s gone. I used to be a gear hoarder, but I can’t stand it anymore. A couple extra items of some specifics, but other than that I run pretty lean on gear.

I sell and trade quite frequently, the key is to pass on a good deal and it will find a home. Don’t get caught up making the most you can and the shipping cost you lose won’t matter. Either that or give it to someone that can use. No point collecting stuff that you don’t fancy.

I will sell some things depending on how long it’s been since I used it or if I upgraded. I like selling so I can use the money to fund other stuff.

If I’m not using it it’s gone. Having a bunch of clutter and junk you don’t use is a sure fire way to take the fun out of a hobby.

With clothes a good method is to hang everything on a hanger in one direction. After you wear it and wash it hang it in the other direction. After a couple months look and see what all you never wore that’s facing in the original direction and get rid of it.

If I can get $50 or more for something I’ll meds with selling it. If not I’ll give it away or trash it. If I want something new that’s hunting related and cost a bunch I’m always looking to sell stuff to put towards the new thing.

I have a handful of things I’ve been meaning to list. As silly as it seems, it can just be a PITA to deal with selling it. I’ve also been more and more committed to the “buy once, cry one” mantra, but I’ve realized my metrics for that keep changing. Especially with glass.

How do you decide on how long you keep something that you do not use or minimally use before throwing it out or selling? Examples:
(1) I have a Stone Glacier hunting pack that I used once and have not used in 3-4 years. I hate to sell it because "I never know when" I will need or want to use it again...so I hang on to it.
(2) I have 2 Vexilar fish flashers...I keep a second (extra) incase some thing happens to one of them or if I take someone else that does not have one. I haven't used one of them in 2-3 years. I hate to sell one because I know what it would cost me to buy another one new.

I feel like after I just wrote this, I answered my own question on the 2 examples above...time to sell. Thanks for the therapy!

If you have no interest in a trip where that pack is useful anymore, sell it. If it’s current life circumstances keeping you from that type of trip, is that going to change? I hate to get rid of quality gear then replace it in a few years.

I never know how much I need something until I get rid of it hence I may reduce the numbers but never get rid of something.

I'm bad at hoarding things. I have a bunch of stuff that I've upgraded and other things I don't use but I have a 10-year-old boy that I hope will fit into my extra clothing and use my old gear one day. I can also let my friends borrow a few things to help convince them on going on a hunting trip with me and not have the huge cost of new gear. To me it's not worth selling some things for pennies on the dollar. But there are a few things that I could probably make money on with the way everything has risen in cost the last few years though.

This is something I've dealt with all my life. My parents were hoarders. What they hoarded was worth keeping to them but since I bought their house and property I have been dealing with getting rid of things for 15yrs. Yes 15 yrs! It's been a slow process because of how much they kept. Right now I have a completely full 3 car garage of stuff my mom refuses to sell. It's all antiques and she won't let it go. Since my dad has passed 16yrs ago it's been tough getting rid of his things but I've gotten to the point of trying to sell it, gift it, or toss it.

I give a lot of it away, i just cant stand wheelin and dealin with people. I post it for a fair price, dont nickel and dime me for 3 days of facebook messenger chats. Id rather throw the shit out than make a dollar at that point.
