I'm thinking I should bring a pair of sandals or crocs for my solo elk hunt in september for camp/letting my feet breathe and also possible water crossings..

Crocs seem possibly too slippery for wet rocks/clunkier and heavier possibly then I heard the Astral sandals could be good choice I know they have the two different webber or pfd sandal choice.

anyone have recommendations?

thanks!

I have a pair of Astral Loyaks, which have the same soles as the Webbers. Super grippy and proven water shoe.

Grown men should not wear Crocs, ever.

You are bigly wrong… crocs have seen more combat and are worn by more bad ass dudes than any water sock ever has…. They are perfect for backcountry or the front country and for many and most occasions

I would want something with toe protection…. Sandals suck for wading. I would take crocs over an open toed shoe every time, and crocs honestly grip decently well because the rubber is so soft.

Other astrals are lighter than the webber/PDF and offer actual toe protection.

Might also check out the merrel hydromoc and the vivo ultra pure (if they still make it)

I keep coming back to the Keen Newport. I've put hundreds of miles on them in and out of rivers and creeks, scrambling up rocks, and worse. Add wool socks for shoulder seasons.

That’s funny, but don’t forget you have to have dignity for it to leak out, crocs are and will remain the OP footwear of choice & the firehouse footwear of choice, and for those intrepid individuals the camp shoe footwear of choice, fortune favors the bold!

I have the loyaks and love them for the river. I would not bring them on a hunt, mainly if I was to use for creek crossing they would not dry by the end of day when I would want to wear them at camp.

Crocs all day, if you are worried what you look like in the backcountry you should rethink about being back there.

I spend 60+ days a year in the backcountry. If I am crossing deeper water I strap crocs to my pack. If I am not doing much for water crossings or the crossings are under a foot deep I bring Zpack Ultralight camp shoes. They are great for around camp and when I am glassing for long periods with my boots off.
